I hopped a city bus midmorning Saturday to find the anti-war effort as it was to be waged in Gainesville Fl.  I chose a bus route that wound its way past the university...  Not one protestor near the campus... As the bus continued to a popular shopping area, some 2 miles from campus,  I noted some protestors on a corner..  I got off and stood with less than a dozen other folk...  I must say, that our collective spirits were unified, but I surely felt a certain disenchantment that such a miniscule gathering had assembled....  During the roughly 2 hours I attended, it's my estimate that approximately one out of a dozen cars honked approval or waved clenched fists and shot peace signs in a show of solidarity...  I'd say an equal number of motorists shot us the bird, called us commie fags, etc.  I was so, so, very dissappointed in the turnout that truly, I have not recovered and am sort of a deep grey funk...  I too, was at the prewar protest four long years and so much destruction ago.  That was one of the finest peace marches I have ever attended...  In this little corner of north Florida, it appears that Herr Bush has won by attrition....  Sorry folks, for being so negative, but I am really saddened by this..........  sal

Sal--

This morning I read that the Senate voted to take back from the Dept of Justice the power to install district attorneys for undefined durations. One bit of good news, but very important. There are things happening right now to turn this country around. The anger that was directed from the Bush Regime toward the world is being aimed AT the Bush regime. They are on the defensive in a hundred different instances. I know you feel sad, and I'm sorry, but hang in there. The tide is turning, keep an eye out for good news while watching the continuing bad news.

In Seattle, the students are staging a city wide walk out on Wednesday. I have a flyer about it. Maybe I will get that info to you, and you can post it at that campus near you. Connect the dots!

On edit: I found the flyer I got at yesterday's rally. The website to look at is for the group Youth and War Against Racism. Their website is: http://www.YAWR.org --it looks like it's a pretty good site :)

Thank you Cen, for your support,  Do not take my bruised heart and my laments for capitulation though.  In a way, it's these small darts to the peacenik soul that have forced me to look into that questioning mirror, on occasion.  You know,  that mirror that asks the proverbial  'are you truly committed?' In the long run, for me, at least,  It always comes down to the blatant reality that I truly have no choice...  Its really not so much a matter of committment as it is an acceptance of the fact that I am what I am, and have a world view and set of values that 'ole senor can not help but have the audacity to try and bestow upon the whole world       Yep,  I have seen the Bush cabal beginning to hide and duck, bob and weave, from the nearly daily assualts being led upon thier de facto kingdom of late.  Does my heart good to witness such things!!....   Gracias for the link to that student site....  All efforts do really become  part of the big picture eh????   senorsal-------------  :and, as overheard in the streets of Chicago in '68:   " Fuck all this blood and those nightsticks, and that gas.... this shit is about what's right.  It's about the fuckin real AmeriKKKa"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     sal

Peace takes courage.
...and as if from the inception of time itself I realized I was and had been for sometime, elsewhere, elsewhen or somehow, quite seriously, otherwise...
