I mentioned Lee on my radio show this morning. My broadcast today is in remembrance of him.

WTF? I was just popping in before heading out to see Widespread Panic. I only met Lee once, but he was one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life.

I can't make it out to Denver, so I'll try to touch with the spirit tonight.

Well, I can't be there in person, but I am in spirit.

You will be missed by many, Lee.

Yeah, Lee, a stand up guy if I ever met one.  Invited me into his house he did, without a second glance when I first met him.  His voice was so pleasant and his mannerisms were well balanced.  Easy with a smile or an ear.  A refined sense of taste and a open spirit.

It's really weird yah know..... it's like he's not even gone.  Alive and well in my head, that circuit will never burn out.

Love you man.

I made it back to the prairie last night.  The hippies had a final send off for Lee on Sunday evening. While I'm glad I was there, I doubt we will ever return to Colorado for live music or otherwise. Saying goodbye to Lee under those circumstances meant leaving that part of my/our life behind, imo.

I see visionarybear bumped this dear reminder of Lee to the top.

Lee missed the Virginia Tech shootings. Thank you world, for letting him miss that.

I was putting away a few CD's this afternoon and ended up with a little  better idea of when we met Lee and the gang in Denver for the first time. I'm pretty sure the Phil shows that went down on my birthday weekend, 4-4 and 4-5 02 at the Philmore was the  first time we met troutie, arjuna and toostoned. We gathered at Sanchez Broken Arrow before the show on the 5th and I'm pretty sure everyone ended up at chez troutie the next night for a little chicken on the grill.  I remember meeting toostoned at troutie's place. He was a quite fellow. Didn't talk much. He turned out to be a lawyer with an interest in all things botanical.

Spirit plants forums evolved into more than a cyber-home for toostoned, imo. Most of his friends in the real world were made from connections gleaned at spf, as far as I can tell.  Sure, we met many of his family members, but I don't remember meeting even one friend in Denver that he hung around with before stumbling onto spf.

Later that same year on 9-1-02, toostoned had his first psychedelic experience at a Phil show at red rocks. (At least I'm pretty sure it was his first meeting with that particular sacrament. Toostoned jumped in with both feet and never looked back. At least after that first night. hehe But he ended up leaving that show early due to the intense psychological pressure exerted on his soft head.

Later, with the advent of the circus joint, which was  I'm pretty, sure the brainchild of toostoned sacramental show experiences became magnified exponentially for me. And toostoned was right there for every last one of those gut wrenching and ultimately soul satisfying rides. Every last one.

Toostoned lost his lawyering job somewhere in the mix. Dirty hippies became his friend of choice. And his good nature was taken advanatge of by a few, imo. Wayward travelers  and itinerant  locals were invited up to his little piece of paradise on the top of yegge peak, some tougher to dislodge than others. But all started with a clean slate, as far as toostoned was concerned, imo.

Last summer toostoned got busted for cultivation fo da kine on the weekend a music festival was to go down  on his mountain top. The police apparently monitored license plates from the highway and finally came across a fellow headed up the hill who had warrants for his arrest. He went into toostoned's front door and out the back ot get away from the heat. Him entering the house was all the excuse the po-po needed to  go in and have their way........

A pair of friends toostoned allowed to set up a little cabin on the property also got taken down last week for cultivation. While it appeared that the hippies had control of Yegge peak for s spell, things changed in a hurry.

I'll be back

Toostoned even came out on the prairie a couple of times through the course of the years, catching Dead and Jim White shows along the way. During this time, my understanding of the sacrament grew and changed. Toostoned was there every step of the way. Always ready to jump head first into the deep end of that cosmic pool.

Were still not sure what happened to our brother, Lee, in the daze leading up to my birthday earlier this month. That remains a mystery. But he did lose a brother to cancer weeks before his own death and found out that he was losing the mountain top the very same day he passed away.

As far as I can tell, Lee came into our life on my birthday in 2002 and ended on my birthday in 2007. This community had a profound effect on his life, imo. The freak community was pretty much all he had, as far as I can tell. For better or worse, toostoned was one of us....
