how often do you water them indoors during the deep autumn/winter sleep periods?

so how do you care for these cuttings?  i just got some in the mail, and am wondering.   They require more regular watering than most cacti, right?

The Desert / Just got a sacred succulents catalog

And i must admit i'm really impressed at the selection and variety.  I currently have some san pedro, peruvian torch, trich terscheckii, trich puqueinsis, bishops cap, and astrophytum asterias.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend some new additions to my garden, in case i am missing any particularly important plants.  what are some of the most important plants at the core of a sacred/psychoactive cactus/succulent collection?

anyone know how i can get rid of moles without ruining my yard?  they're really making my dad's yard look like shit, and the dogs are always digging their tunnels up looking for them.  it sucks.

thanks.

ok, i'll try to have some pics up in a bit.
i definately have the black blister problem.

the little webbings were around the tip.  i'll try to get a pic up in a week or two.  (sorry, all my plants are kept with my mom and dad back home.  my damned cat likes nibbling on them too much.)

The Desert / spider mites?
May 09, 2005, 02:19:44 AM
i have little blister like bumps popping up on my pedros and other cacti.  they start off like little bumps, then they poof up like blisters, and they eventually skin over black.  i suspected mites.

secondly, when i went downstairs today to take them out from their wintering, i found a little spider web over the tip of the bumpiest one (a peruvian torch)

are these spider mites?  how can i blast these little motherfuckers out of existance, preferabbly in an organic/cheap way?

thanks so much.

The Desert / watering with green tea?
February 25, 2005, 05:09:51 PM
Hey, my dad has been watering his plants with green tea now and then, and he uses the grounds as a soil additive.

He apparently is getting some decent results with some of his plants, but i was a little skeptical as to whether it was the tea or what.  Apparently the one he has been giving tea to is doing really good as compared to one of the same species given the same amount of light, and it does have a better color.  i think maybe it's because the soil was already lacking nutrients.  i could be wrong.  I wanted to ask how this effects the soil, and the plants.  What it's benefits might be.  detriments.

won't the tea make the soil acidic?  are there risks to this?

i want to know what you think of this.  I've been considering setting up two prickly pears from the same bunch (clones if possible) and seeing how it effected growth.  and if it does good, maybe trying it on trichs eventually.

will watering with green tea ever cause problems?  has anyone heard of this?

they're really interesting.  nz has all kinds of really neat animals, apparently.
do you know if that's one of the kind that eats other insects?

When it comes to linux flavors, I recommend trying Knoppix or maybe MEPIS live cd's before making the migration.

i've had problems with the GRUB boot loader when trying to dual os.

Keep a copy of your windows cd handy, just in case.  If you get a problem with GRUB you can fix your boot sectors by booting up the cd, running a recovery console and then after entering the prompt typing "fixmbr" and then "fixboot"
