The Shamans Hut / "Waking Life"
January 04, 2006, 07:49:13 PM
Just picked up "Waking Life" from a friend the other day, have to check it out, looks quite good indeed, saw the first scene and was definitely impressed with the story content, the animation, etc.

Also I found a few other sites with info on Dream Manipulation, they are listed below:

The Shamans Hut / Colchicine fallacies...
December 31, 2005, 06:16:28 PM
Hey all, just thought that I would chime in on the colchicine discussion.

This chemical is indeed important, and has drastically changed the course of human history/progression.

The "Autumn Crocus" (Colchicum autumnale ) has been used for millenium to treat gout (specific form of arthritis, see link at bottom).  The chemical colchicine has been extracted from many sources, but was originally found in the Autumn crocus, and is used primarily in its' production.

Colchicine itself causes polyploids to occur for one main reason; the cessation of spindle formation, via disruption of the microtubules, during cell division, causing the duplicated chromosomes not to seperate in mitosis.

Now here's the thing, I see so often Colchicine referred to as a mutagen(causing mutations), while personally I believe that it doesn't actively cause the mutations, but with double the amount of chromosomes there is going to be a larger incidence of a visible phenotype change.  In essence, since there is now double the amount of genetic material found, and being duplicated, there is a much larger chance that a mistake will be made during the copy process.

As for the original idea of colchicine as an anti-cancer agent, the main problem would be the side effect that we find so desirable in plants.  Yes the colchicine causes cessation of cell division, BUT it does not stop the chromosomes from doubling, and that is definitely not good for those of us in the animal kingdom.  Successful (meaning living) polyploids in animals are rare indeed, and when we have tried to induce them, have found that it is fatal in almost all cases.  Also, another problem would be whether or not it would be specific to just the cancer cells or not?

Well think that's it.

The Shamans Hut / Gelding a male horse (ouch)...
December 31, 2005, 06:56:36 AM
A "Gelding" in horse terms means a neutered horse, a "Stallion" meaning unadulterated.

"Gelding is often used as a means to modify a horse's behavior.  Vocalization, fractious behavior and sexual interest in mares are frequently the undesirable characteristics noted in the yearling and two-year-old stallion"

Hope this helps in your dream interpretation!
