Now that's interesting, thanks DrYRHead. I saw something that looked just like that a couple of days ago - a Rwandese friend asked me if I knew what it was and I didn't  :P

I've heard of its prolific use in other countries, but to be honest I haven't seen it here at all thus far. It's a very Catholic country - many people don't drink either. I'm sure, if it's here, it'll be in use but rather under cover in comparison to some countries I'd suspect.

The Rain Forest / Plants of East Africa

I've just moved to East Africa (Rwanda) - anyone able to tell me what sort of entheogenic shrubs we have here? I've seen what looks like the bright purple Morning Glory here and there but other than that I'm woefully ignorant of the local flora. It's a long way from home  :P

Haven't posted for a while but just thought I'd let you know there’s an interesting thread kicking off on UK Pagan about entheogens, thought some might like to join in (there's a link back to here on there).

Best wishs,

Marion.

Thanks for posting that. Now isn't that interesting. The brain really was designed to live in harmony with entheogens. Shame they always make these discoveries when looking to make new drugs to make people 'sane' lol

It is a tough call. To be fair, the tracks do look spot on. As mentioned as well, they do look like semilanceata and I have no idea whether a similar species grows near there - not impossible though as it's an area with water.

However, it is a startling resemblance and the 'underground'/'underworld' connection is an interesting one. There's a wonderful article by Donal Ruane in Dreamflesh vol I in which he describes the transmutable/transpermiable imagery of reality. Sorry, sound like I’m rambling lol. It wouldn't be inconceivable for a connection there, especially as many species will no longer be around since white man came and trashed the party :)

Guess we'll never know.

Best wishes,

Marion.

(PS. Tried to join other forum but having posting probs.)

The Rain Forest / Advice on Ayahuasca
February 01, 2007, 02:39:57 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm currently coming to the end of a time in my life when it will soon be time for me to head off travelling and looking for my next direction.

With the time that I will have, I would very much like to take an introduction to ayahuasca.

I'm based in the UK but not adverse to travelling. But the problem is that I wouldn't know what to look for in a course, in the teachers or in the 'organisation' they're working through. I'm sceptical about a lot of the hard sell and money involved in some of these organisations. I was looking at the ones in Ireland (posted in this section) and France, and I was wondering how they measure up to courses on offer in South America.

I'd like to avoid the churches of ayahuasca as I’ve read that the preparation and the setting that they use tends to be quite diluted from the original/shamanic experience.

I was wondering whether anybody here has been on a course/retreat, or found other ways in to the ayahuasca realms - who did you choose to go with, why, how did it measure up to expectations, would you do it again?

Any advice? :)

Best wishes,

Marion.

The Forest Floor / Tracks of the Marsupial Mole.
February 01, 2007, 11:44:02 AM
I was going through a box of stuff from Aus the other day and found a guidebook they hand out at Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park.

On page 7 of this booklet is this picture, which is apparently a cave art depiction of the 'tracks of the itjarijari, marsupial mole'.

Riiiiiiigggght.

Of course it is.

*scratches chin*

Entheogen Law /

Brave of them to publish that. Be a great one to quote in a court of law some time lol Not volunteering to try it myself, but I think it makes the point pretty clear.

I was reading through the Science and Technology - Fifth Report to the House of Commons relating to the misuse and classification of drugs (UK), and I found this comment rather amusing. They're discussing psilocybin:

"Sir Michael Rawlins, Chairman of the ACMD*, told us: "I have no idea
what was going through the minds of the group who put it in Class A in
1970 and 1971…It is there because it is there". The Home Office has
admitted that it has never conducted any research into psilocin use
and that there is "no clear evidence of a link between psilocin use
and acquisitive or other crime"

* ACMD = Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs

You can find the full report here: http://www.publications.parliament.uk/p ... 103102.htm

Got a link to this through another e-list and thought some in the UK may be interested. Two in Galway, Ireland and another in France.
