Hey all, never really grown a cacti before besides a tiny one my aunt recently gave me. The only succulent being some jade plants that i keep forgetting about.
For my first real grow i was planning on growing some Hoodia Gordonii and a Peruvian Torch.
Do any of you guys have tips out there for growing these? Also, those who have some and are willing to trade, PM me. I cant find much about growing Hoodia and Peruvian torch they just say water regularly. What do you guys think?
Rife
I think finny is a hoodia person.
Torch are easy. Just water regularly and give the right amount of light. Consider letting them go dormant during the winter if'n natural light and temps are too low in your area.
Cuttings are readily available.

What Bruddah Willow said. Trichos thrive on benign neglect. It takes real talent to kill em. Also consider a pachanoi, they grow faster and pup more.
Is SSO2 a torch hybrid?
lw
To let them go dormant, i just dont water them? I heard that peruvian torch grows faster than san pedro. A brother is offering me a san pedro cactus on Botanical Swap.
Night all,
Rife
Cooler temps are vital to letting the cactus go dormant. Lower light levels help too.

I am no expert, but I have grown various trichos for a number of years, and it seems to me that the pachanois grow faster.
Lw. SSo2 is considered more a 'form' of Bridgseii. It has some miner divergences from classic Bridgesii. Mabe something crept into the wood pile long ago,or perhaps it is representative of what was bridgesii in a local area it was origonally removed from. It 'blues' up 'quite a bit,but my classic staight up bridgesii, which is 6'7" now,is even bluer, tho the spination is a bit different. SSo2 seems to like presenting dual spines parrellel on the horzontal to each other, and then mabe/mabe not a shorter spine or two in the aeriole. You look at the whole plant, you get that effect. (P.S. that Pachanoi...i`m wondering if it`s a 'hybrid' tho`,will say why, mean`t to latly).
RifeHeritec, don` believe everything that`s been advertised. ...Pachanoi to my experience is a very dependable and fast growing species. Peruviannus has proven to have wide variation that has suprised ppl. out of that set 'steriod' myth.Tho` there are excellent forms... I would say grow everything. But Pachanoi is an excellent way to go,fast, desirable, good-looking,an easy to handle. gawd that matters, that last part, when you are repotting, jeez.
But i enjoy growing all forms ,hybrids, and species..jus to have fun. love the variations.

Those are URLs to two photographs of SS02 in my collection.
It is allied with bridgesii, but seems to have a thickness akin to T pachanoi. It may be a hybrid but little is known about it and its ultimate origins.
It has been used in numerous hybrids, here are some photographs of them:
This is an SS02 X T pachanoi :

Here is the top of the SS02 X T pachanoi:

You can see it is quite healthy and well, I find the purple/red color to be pleasing and the plant grows very well.
And here is a T pachanoi X SS02

Some SS02 X SS01 seedlings at six months of age:

There are a few other hybrids it is involved in. It is a desirable clone in my opinion.
To the care advice I would add that fertilizing makes a difference with the plants and they respond quite well to it.
Thanks for reminding me EA!...i`ll post some pics later also...
Hmmm,if it`ll let me...
