Post by: Green2Herman on August 18, 2005, 06:29:01 AM
A very interresting healing plant...

I put two suggested use of it together with publiced results.

1. Helps against Anxiety
2. Drug withdrawl

1. Helps against Anxiety
Gives about the same effect as oxazepam after 4 weeks.

2. Drug withdrawl

aren't the flowers the most 'potent' part of the plant?  or would it be better to take a tincture of the whole plant if using it for anxiety?
(if  anyone knows any good sources please pm me)

Also an excellent sleep-aid.  Many "night-night" teas contain it as a major ingredient-- those put me right out in most cases when it's bedtime but I'm not particularly tired.
Title: Harman effects on DNA?Mutations?

Dr Shulgin on the beta-carbolines in Rue :

Quote:
"...Vasicine and Desoxyvasicine. I have no knowledge what these Syrian Rue quinazoline compounds might contribute, positively or negatively, to the Ayahuasca experience, but my gut feeling would be to avoid them until you know their pharmacological properties.

The second question relates to yet another beta-carboline alkaloid, Harman. This is a structural analogue of Harmine that has been stripped of its methoxyl group.... It also interacts directly with DNA and is thus a possible mutagenic agent.... "

and "according to Jonathan Ott´s Ayahuasca Analogues harman seems to be the main alkaloid in the species of Passiflora."

Yes they do contain harmalines but it hasnt anything to do with the major effekt. That other compounds stand for.

In large doses you have to watch out for it though. But in any normal dose and over dose they doesnt mather.

Don't mix passionflower with other drugs or meds to be safe.
