I watched a program on "Animal planet" about how different animals used medicins, herbs and intoxicaters. They had films about bees geting drunk, raindeers eating Amarita Muscaria and many more animals. However they also had films with a Jaguar eating Yagé. The indians (not sure which Indians they were talking about) was told to beliave that the jaguar eat it to prepare for the hunt, much like themself.
Birds in my area eat brazilian pepper berries and get drunk. You can see them flying around erratically. Bears and other animals know what herbs to eat if they have a stomach ache. I'm sure animals have gotten drunk while eating fermenting fruit.
Can you recall the title of that show? I'd really like to track it down...
I've been logging lots of time on datura and brugmansia research. One of the texts cited observations of hummingbirds feeding on those trumpet flowers, then sitting on a nearby branch for a few hours, perfectly still (which they otherwise never do)...they don't come to feed on the trumpets often, but they do come back.
I then tracked down this title; I've ordered it and am waiting for delivery:
Animals and Psychedelics: The Natural World and the Instinct to Alter Consciousness
by Rob Montgomery
Standard Disclaimer: This is not an endorsement of this book. I have not read it. Do not run out and buy this book because you think I told you to do so. It could be crap; it could be gold.
