Dear Doctors Spiritus:
As some of you already know, I am approaching my hopefully final surgery to correct injuries from an auto accident a while back. The surgeon will remove two intervertebral discs--C5/6 and C6/7--and replace them with pieces of bone removed from my hip and shaped to fit. I won't be able to argue anymore when Milady calls me a stiff-necked bastard.
The surgeon has warned about various activities that might retard the fusion between those bone grafts and the vertebrae--anybody have any suggestions about what might promote bone fusion?
Meanwhile (maestro, if you please)...
the hip bone's connected to the neck bone,
the neck bone's connected to the head bone,
the head bone's connected to the sky bone... 8)
all the best for your recovery space,
bone growth, im sure u have guessed lotsa milk and calcium, that way you will have ample so you can repair the bone as fast as your body is able,
steroids also promote bone growth, but not always a good idea...
vitamin d is also important
dont really think there is an easy way round it, time is important...
take care
~vb
Teriparatide which are made from naturally occurring hormone parathyroid can increase bone strength and mineral intensity. But I am unsure if you acctually would have any use of it. I feel that the body will release in this case enough hormones anyway and even more maybe even could be bad. I would anyway discuss the use of this drug with your doctor before use.
Vitamine-E, B-vitamines, Oat straw (Avena sativa) and Aloe Vera will most likely speed up the general healing (but would also speed up cancer grow if that are a risk factor). A little extra vitamine A and D would also be good together with minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium and phophorus.
In chinese medicin Atractylodes Rhizome, Rhizoma Drynariae (Largehead) and Dodder Seed are used for boone growth.
Green-Tea, extra fruits and red vegetables for anti-oxidation probably also good for the general stress from the operation.
Omega-3, linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid and similar fatty acids are known to help increase bone formation and reduce bone resorption.
Isoflavones (which have estrogen-like effects on the body) are found in soy products and have been shown to increase bone density and slow bone loss. Red clover (Trifolium pratense) also contains isoflavones.
Horsetail (Equisetum arvense)also are believed to strengthen bone.
