Decent, but not quite nice. This one is nice. What you see here are two very small week old Trichocereus seedlings grafted to each other and then grafted to a stock plant in this case Pereskiopsis. So, you have effectively a double-triple graft as each seedling must be grafted to each other and at least one side of the Pereskiopsis to grow.

Just an update on the cotyledon graft. This is the way I like to graft em. Photo taken today.

Thanks for the wow, and while I do get excited over silly stuff like this... I have not presented anything I could not teach an elementary school child to replicate with a few minutes of teaching hands on. I can say this with a degree of confidence as I've taught all my children to do similar grafts with everything from cacti to trees. The mystery one feels when looking at grafts is kind of like the mystery one feels when seeing a magic trick one does not understand. Once the trick is revealed though the mystery is gone. Still, I love watching seedlings progress along their altered course via the power of grafting. I will never grow tired of that as the mystery within the seedling does unfold so much faster with the simple act of grafting.

Hi all,

Your "three headed"grafting is really cool .. how long can you keep it this way before it break from the Pereskiopsis because of their own weight ??

How long does a tree limb stay in place before it breaks of its own weight?
Stay tuned. I'm going to keep you updated. My goal is to try to keep updating these grafts so you can get a feel for how fast grafts grow in a less than ideal situation.

Thanks Judith. I like to spice things up. As it is, I have too much spice and not enough grafting supplies, but that is always the case with me when it comes to grafting. When I see a lemon or a lime variegate I have to decide... do I make areole grafts and gift these things out to as many people as I can? Or do I save my grafting supplies to save these other freaks in my collection? The choice is usually pretty clear. Save as many freaks as you can and worry about making more areole grafts later for gift giving.

Enough chatter though, here is a before and after picture I realized I did not post the really early before... so here she goes. Along with a photo taken today of course on the right.

For those that thought the first cotyledon graft was a fluke. I present another cotyledon graft and an update to the first cotyledon graft on the left. Both pictures taken today.

This update is for you. As always. Picture is taken Sunday the 24th of September 2017 and post same day.

And every morning I wake up to beautiful plants and cacti is a good morning indeed. I can't say that too much in life brings me the happiness that I see when I see a seedling start to germinate other than that same seedling getting large enough to tell some of its phenotype. Then the excitement builds to an all new height yet again when that specimen blooms for the first time. Cacti and plants in general when grown from seed generally provide me with anywhere from 1-3 years of extreme excitement before it starts to wear off. Only, then it doesn't wear off as I am watching the next generation of seed go through the same process and on and on we go.....

This little yellow dream had its head chopped off today as you can see. I needed him for some grafting stock as I'm running low.

Your grafting works are really impressive ...thank you for the update and the pixs ! How long can you keep them grafted on the Pereskiopsis ? I mean, is there a delay to change the support of the graft ? ( sorry if my questions seems to be dumb ...)

I honestly don't know how long you can keep them on a graft. I've never had any problems with my grafts other than bumping them and thereby knocking the graft loose. I like cacti on their own roots so I don't tend to leave them on past a foot in height. Here are a bunch of new babies I have grafted. There are some really interesting specimens hidden in this bundle.
