Title: Opuntia survivor
Post by: laughingwillow on May 23, 2005, 09:54:57 AM
I was doing a little work in the rose bed yesterday when I discovered a couple of rooted cholla pads buried in some sod. One had a pup. The funny thing is, I haven't messed with any cholla cuttings since Phil played redrocks and furry and andy came out to groove. I scored a couple of yellow, beat up pads that trip and salvaged what I could upon arriving home. That was used to start a patch in me cactus room. The worse of the batch must have been discarded and ended up under the rose mulch. The pads I found yesterday are a pale green, but nothing like the worm infested yellowed rot that was discarded way back in 2002? I wonder if the yellow discarded pad might have pupped before dying. The pup then rooted and pupped again. But this took place pretty much beneath a layer of sod and grass, it would appear.

Yea, that would have been late 2002.
