Title: spider mites?
Post by: jonah on May 09, 2005, 02:19:44 AM
i have little blister like bumps popping up on my pedros and other cacti.  they start off like little bumps, then they poof up like blisters, and they eventually skin over black.  i suspected mites.

secondly, when i went downstairs today to take them out from their wintering, i found a little spider web over the tip of the bumpiest one (a peruvian torch)

are these spider mites?  how can i blast these little motherfuckers out of existance, preferabbly in an organic/cheap way?

thanks so much.

I get those on my cacti too sometimes. It doesn't seem to be due to mites but may be a reaction to too much sun or some sort of stress. I wish I knew a solution to it. The black blisters don't seem to progress usually so they can be ignored.

My experience is the same as Stoneys. Black spots occur, but they are extrmely local, and soon heal-sort of scar. I suspect that as inferred,a number of things cause these black blisters. One time I did it for myself  :(  by using a 'Safer' product, and also to some extant w/Neems oil.

Where i do get spider mites is at the tip. Most insects,it seems, attack the tip. I`m trying to be oh..'non chem' in my approach, least initially, and have found Sulphur helps. It is effective for fungus(the cause of some of the black spots[?]) and seems to affect mites. So what I use is one of the powder dusters, and somebodies sulpher product.

ok, i'll try to have some pics up in a bit.
i definately have the black blister problem.

the little webbings were around the tip.  i'll try to get a pic up in a week or two.  (sorry, all my plants are kept with my mom and dad back home.  my damned cat likes nibbling on them too much.)
