OK. So about 72 hours I had a dose of DMX of approximately 3mg/kg (see previous post).
So, my situation is this. dextromethorphan is highly contraindicated with MAOIs. Howver, I had an ayahuasca journey scheduled for tonight, and I've been unable to find any relevant literature on DXM metabolism, and how long it takes to be excreted from the body. I posted over at aya, but no one seems to know anything.
Does anyone have any information? Is three days sufficent for injesting a reversable MAOI -a, such as mixed hamaline alkaloids?
Inquiring minds want to know!
hell... I dunno... I've done ayahuasca numerous times while being on DXM... No problems... don't know why there'd be a problem with DXM and MAOI
DXM is metabolized by the Cytochrome P450 enzymes.
Do MAOI do anything to these?
If not, then no concern.
8)  --- Ha!!! Now believe me . I do not mean to make light of what could be a medical condition,,, but I jess gotta say,,,, {ole Byroon raising up from the hospital bed / waxing poetic concerning DXM and sundry other substances}
Maybe my faith is misplaced, but I've always taken the DXM FAQ to be pretty authoratative, and it says DXM + MAOI is a no-no. Personally, I wouldn't mix the two.
72 hours later, though? I think you should'a been fine.
DXM release serotonin so it shouldnt be combined with a MAO-I.
How sensitive people are, with regard to serotonine-syndrome, to combining different kind of chemicals releasing serotonin, inhibit MAO or re-uptake, seems to differ a lot.
A lot of people seems to be able to combine just about anything messing with serotonin without problems, while others do get in problem and sometimes end up in intensive care.
With MAO-I it is also important to regard the dose. That someone have used a combination are quite useless information without information about how much of the MAO-I he used, his weight and other information. The effect of MAO-I also seem to differ a lot between people, which could explain a lot also regarding this issue.
To give a good answer your question are also quite hard since information about 1/2-life and so on isnt really checked for such a large dose, and also by the way do not say anything about if it still are affecting the serotonin levels.
But answering for myself I wouldnt worry about it after 72 h.

Probably, but I decided against it anyway: one doesn't want to be worrying too much then the mother vine hits the bloodstream :)
Winder: I don't know the specifics, but there any many sources of the contraindication of the combination.
QuoteThe resulting safety profile indicates that adverse drug reactions are infrequent and usually not severe. The predominant symptoms are usually dose related and include neurological, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal disturbances. Particular safety concerns arise when monoamine oxidase inhibiting (MAOI) drugs and dextromethorphan are coadministered.

Thanks for the correction regarding DXM and MAOI.
Interesting that DXM instigates serotonin secretion.
Not that will encourage my use of it though. Blech!
Well almost everything that tend to affect something in the brain often affects a lot of other things also.
Lack of worry should be important using the holy vine.
I cant say anything about the Ayahuasca combination but MAO-I by themself tend to increase anxity. Even very weak MAO-I like Moclobemid do this.
I was on not the diet but a diet with an analog containing besides harmalines and DMT also 5-meo-dmt and bufotenin, for about 4 weeks and got exactly this problem at the end. Not a big problem though, but it is interresting since the daily dose was quite small. The problem settle back to normal about 4 weeks after I stop the diet.
I medical doctor probably should have called the problem drug induced GAD. I think it maybe are caused by an increase of cortison or maybe something with the adrenalin.

I find the mixed beta-carbolines of the vine to have the opposite effect. As the active principles of the vine wash through by blood (and before any andmixtures kick in) I find them to be comforting and loving. Messaged by the vine....
and remember, grapefruit juice and certain drugs (wellbutrin) inhibit the enzyme that metabolizes DXM leaveing elevated extended blood levels of that nasty shit...
You know :P Wouldn't it be great if someone marketed a pill containing DXM and an inhibitor of the enzyme that breaks it down? Wouldn't that be awesome.... GUESS WHAT? THEY DID! See my seperate post about Neurodex titled: GOOD NEWS DXM'ERS!
