Hey, Den.

Looks like that might be a hybrid incarnation of Gov't Mule, featuring Warren Haynes. (Allman Brothers)

I know him best from the days he played in the Phil Lesh Quintet. (Bass player for the Grateful Dead.)

Another major talent on that stage you linked is the other guy on guitar, Derek Trucks. Derek is the son of Butch trucks, also of the Allmon Bros.

Heres' a link to a bit of Derek's magic...

This was recorded when derek was 13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLQTbmUYI4A&feature=related

Here's something a bit more recent.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N65cP52NC8s&list=LPaUQBW8UPdWI&index=4&feature=plcp

OMFG! That kid's poor little mama, how'd she get out that guitar the kid was born with?

Man the kid gave me a seizure, seriously I just went out of it for a while. Man thanks for that LW, that kid is all heart, did you catch how he was carrying the dark-haired guy? The guy lost it, and the kid just brought him back and then kicked him into a higher gear. Too much, I tells ya...

In this Clapton vid of "Little Wing" I linked in the other post, you can see Eric just shake his head and smile at the kid's genius.

Thanks for the background info on Haynes et al. Soulshine, that's good stuff. Wanna hear more from these guys.

That Trucks band, that's too much. Gawd, where have I been all my life? News to me, thanks a heap brah, gonna get me some Trucks Band.

Trucks with Haynes at Obama's house, dig it. Gotta stop now, too much music.

I think Derek is Butch's nephew, not sure about that, but he is one hell of a guitar player. To me Warren is absolutely the best of the current crop, though hippies don't like him for not being Garcia. Luther Dickenson is another contender also not Garcia.

Warren isn't my favorite gat player, but it doesn't have anything to do with him not being Jerry. Rather, he's usually the loudest voice in most any musical conversation, imo. More of a monolog guy rather than a dialog guy, maybe. But we did catch a few intense Phil shows with Warren that I'll never forget.

On a related note, if I had known you could make a career out of sounding like Garcia I may never have switched to bass. At the time i felt like i couldn't escape his influence and there was only room for one Garcia. He still is arguably my single biggest musical influence, something about the directness and simplicity of his approach that speaks to me, as compared to the obtuseness of  Lesh and Weir. I miss him.

I don't know Luther Dickenson. I'll have to check him out.

My current favorite gat player would have to be anyone playing with Phil.

A few strings guys I admire would have to include:
Jimmy Herring
David Lindley
Derek Trucks
Tonino Baliardo (Gypsy Kings)
Ali Hassan (Iraqi Oud player)

John Molo would have ot be one of my favorite drummers, as both musician and person.

Btw...... One of my favorite psychedelic rangers on the gat is a local guy here in Ioway named Rick Dressler. Rick plays an old Fender Jaguar with a local psychedelic reggae band called The SunDogs. (Not to be confused with another new local rock band calling themselves the SunDogs.)

Tom Rigney had a band called the Sundogs in Norcal in the 80s, I guess it's just one of those names that peoploe like not like my band in the 80s the Beer Dawgs, never had to worry about that name.

I've really come to dig the Black Crowes, check out the live stuff from Levon Helms barn. They are out on the eat coast now with Jackie greene in Luther's chair. I think Luther is out with his old band the North Mississippi All Stars.

Phil has had a bunch of great guitar players, Scofield and Kimock come to mind. As far as unknown local heros go(and I gots a million of them) the one that would be right there with Phil and all the phriends is this guy named Rick Zamora, who plays with Mind X and the Coallition. Melvin Seals, Kimock, Martin Fierro, Freddy Roulette have all played with Rickey and Mind X.
