Somehow missed this third album by this heartfelt, funny, rocking Seattle band . . . those are fairly rare adjectives for bands this good, but they pull it off, the rocking and the humor, and sometimes the pathos too . . . a genuine pleasure & grower of a record . . .
*Classic Rock Album: Toad the Wet Sprocket, *Dulcinea* (1994) . . . This California band mixes a driving indie rock sound with a twisty spiritual yearn, resulting in a sound like no other . . . their concerns run large and small, from the here and now to the hereafter . . . sometimes their sound is just out and out pretty, sometimes you gotta take the ride awhile to find the inmost groove . . .
*Storybook Time: Continuing Epilogue to *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .

Subtitled "Whatever Happened to Gerald Bostock?", Jethro Tull frontman Anderson returns 40 years later to the 8-year-old boy of the original classic album, and gives him five possible paths through life . . . what else to know is that the record sounds like classic Tull, rocks and rolls in the best way, Anderson is clearly inspired and has a crack band with him . . . a sequel of high worth . . .
*Classic Rock Album: Steely Dan, *The Royal Scam* (1976) . . . This is just one damned delightful album from the Dan boys . . . funny, satiric, imaginative, tender, if you know this band, you know these many aspects all play in, and the music itself is idiosyncratically gorgeous . . . just a plain and complex delight of a record . . .

Before he was a gun swinging nut with an outsized opinion of his own mouth noises, Ted Nugent was a pretty good guitarist in this seminal Detroit band . . . the Dukes play very high, also very blues, & a close listen reveals all manner of trippy word-games . . .

*New Rock Album*: Spiritualized, *Sweet Heart Sweet Light* (2012) . . . It was about eight years ago (12/19/2004) that this show featured Spiritualized's 1997 masterpiece *Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space* . . . It is a delightful thing to know that a recent tour featuring that album live helped inspire their new album, which reaches up to such ambitions again, and hits the mark again and again . . . they know how to make vast albums, great ones, then and again now . . .
*Classic Rock Album*: The Monkees, *Headquarters* (1967) . . . This was the album (their third) when the Monkees finally got control of their band's music and material, and the end result is a rock and roll delight, the sound of a band trying out all sorts of sounds and styles, playing around, having fun, making really good music . . . as a bit of trivia, the album was #1 on the charts before The Beatles *Sgt Pepper* pushed them out . . . it then hung in at #2 for 11 weeks, all through the Summer of Love, just behind the band that inspired them in so many ways . . .
