*New Rock Album: Coldplay, *Mylo Xyloto* (2011) . . . These Brit boys have put together another album of gorgeous tunes, and it seems like there's still a lot on Chris Martin's mind . . . some put down his songs of happiness, as though such things are lesser than those of gloom or despair . . . give a good listen, there's sadness in these songs too, but it's not enough to whelm them, their joys are solid and earned . . .
*Classic Rock Album: Harry Chapin, *Portrait Gallery* (1975) . . . It must be November because I find myself drifting the years to a melancholy youth spent listening to Harry Chapin LPs again and again . . . and the years pass but his music still moves me with its empathy, its humor, its grit, the fineness of his band's playing . . . it was, in fact 30 years ago that he died, and I cried when I heard, and that was when I began to listen . . .
*Storybook Time: Chapter Twenty-One of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .
*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artists are some of those featured on the excellent *Dark Was the Night* compilation . . . I think of November as one of my nearest friends among the months . . . the autumn maturing by the colors above and below, the air chilling perfectly . . . things getting prettiest before they part . . .

*New Rock Album: The Bats, *Free All Monsters* (2011) . . . Last played these New Zealand dream popsters on the 8/1/2009 broadcast, their excellent *Guilty Office* . . . their new album is just as perty & strange, & I'd say fits the sweeping autumnal colors & cool of this hemisphere . . . guitars & harmonies, can't beat it . . .
*Classic Rock Album: Billy Joel, *Glass Houses* (1980) . . . I was a pimpled youth when this album came out, and it helped begin my deep love of Joel's music . . . he was long past being just the Piano Man at this point, but his love of basic good rock and roll was intact in the funny songs, the dark ones, and the ones full of want . . . fine, fine tunes . . .
*Storybook Time: Chapter Twenty-One of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .
*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artists are again from the excellent *Dark Was the Night* compilation . . . this is the time of year I feel most close to, swim natively within . . . & tonight, to bring these good feelings to others, plan to spend some time Occupying Boston . . . whoot! . . .

*New Rock Album: Lindsey Buckingham, *Seeds We Sow* (2011) . . . Keeping track of the Fleetwood Mac's mastermind's solo work is a wise thing to do, for it is in his solo albums that he simply will not set his guitar down for a moment . . . his albums come out every few years, and each one shows the effortless deep craft of a great artist . . . news is that LB has left the major record labels for more home-grown environs . . . he loses not a step in his brilliance, perhaps gains one or two for his freedom . . .
*Classic Rock Album: James, *Gold Mother* (1990) . . . Having played this British band's most recent album on the 11/13/2010 show, I thought it was time enough passed to dip into their back catalogue . . . James writes clever, twisty lyrics & grooves them into the catchiest of rock and roll melodies . . . easy to enjoy, but the music gets stuck in your happy ears . . .
*Storybook Time: Chapter Twenty-Two of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May. . .
*Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems . . . & this week's featured artists are a third helping from the excellent *Dark Was the Night* compilation . . . this weekend SpiritPlants Radio celebrates its 8th anniversary, which I date back to my show's first broadcast on the station . . . & my show remains for me the heart of the matter even as the land about it has grown vast with other great radio productions . . .
