Title: question about poppy seeds
Post by: jokergrin on March 19, 2011, 12:52:13 AM
All,
I have some "Danish Flag" variety of poppy seed (P. som.) and they are white.  So far, I have 0% germination (and I am well-versed in germinating P. som. seed)

Does the fact that they are white mean they are infertile?  All others I've come across are blue/grey/black/dark-colored.

Thanks for any info.

I have had some 'Persian White' poppy seeds and those are white.  And I grew them and they never survived past 5 weeks.  All I did was fill a little 3 inch high and 3 inch wide pot for plants and fill it to the brim with tap water once a day and leave in window inside house in sun and weather in the window and they germinated excellently and if I grew these poppy seeds in the summer maybe they would have survived.

yeah, you really can't grow poppies inside. I know a handful of people who have tried, they always get super leggy and then randomly die off. They need full sunlight and tons of root space(the roots kinda suck because they grow all long and spindly and if they hit something, like the walls of a container they seem to stop growing.) Poppies are kinda a bitch to grow until they get use to where you are growing them and then sometimes they will reseed themselves.

Nah, they grow just fine. as for a real test take like 5-10 of them and drop them in some water, the ones that float are dead, the ones that sink should grow.

I ate a hot dog with poppy seeds on the bun on Wednesday and I had to take a drug test today (Friday) for a federal job that I currently work for. I heard that poppy seeds can falsely cause you to fail a drug test. Is this true? Now I'm worried about losing my job over a hot dog.

i doubt poppy seeds will make someone test postive on a drug test.  i dont think danish flag poppy seeds are white i am pretty sure, does anyone know the color of danish flag?
