Title: what the hell is up with this peyote?

I found these on a random website and was just wondering if anyone could explain what I am looking at.
why is it so stretched out?

That's called a caespitosa. Multi headed peyote is not uncommon and they will all form pups but not to the degree you see in the pics.

are you sure it's a caespitosa? a friend of mine in Caneda has a few large clumps and none of them look like this. it almost looks like some sort of mutation, I just have never seen one that looks like so columnar. Do you think that straining for light could cause something like this?
