Title: Help needed with whiteflies
Post by: roach on January 12, 2011, 01:22:59 AM
I picked up some plants from Richters herbs and like always they were infested with whiteflies. The problem is getting out of control. I need to kill them and be sure they will not come back. Any advice?

Thanks,
roach

Safer's soap or any soap solution or most anything will kill them on contact. Get a bottle of b.t. such as thuricide and mix it up. I used a wetting agent which helps spread it out. I use to mix it with the safers and spray it on the leaves especially on the undersides. The bacteria is harmless and will kill the larval form of the whitefly. It takes a while to work because the lifecycle is long. Spray every couple days or when you see them. Watch for other plants nearby that may harbor them.

I had a bad whitefly infestation once, and the only thing that worked for me was to sell my house and sacrifice most of my plants (of course, the whiteflies weren't the driver in this).

Hope you have better luck.
