Title: Australian sedative herb: Goodenia ovata
Post by: dogbane26 on November 21, 2010, 07:26:56 PM
I got 1 out of maybe 60 Goodenia ovata seeds to germinate.

I tried these pretreatments(smoke water, gibberellic acid) but from what i read online they just take time to germinate.  My one seed that germinated took 2 months but online it said 3 months is normal.  It is getting  very close to 3 months and no other seeds have germinated yet.

I will generalize and say that Australian species have got to be some of the most difficult to germinate.

I know that isnt always the case since some Aussie seeds are easy. Most eucalyptus i would say fit in the easy category.

Goodenia ovata is said to be a mild sedative and was used by early white settlers to treat diabetes.

Cuttings are easy I heard so if anyone is interested I will have cuttings for trade in the future.
