On this week's show:

New Rock Album: Menomena, *Mines* (2010) . . . Part of the delight to listening to these Portland, Oregon rockets is knowing--& not caring--or not knowing at all, that they use a computer program as part of their album creation process . . . it is completely irrelevant to the enjoyment of this work, a restless, frothy, smart rainbow of rocking tunes . . . however a band gets to making music this good, praise be . . .

Classic Rock Album: Morning Dew, *Morning Dew* (1967) . . . There is a timeless magic to the debut album of this acid rock band from Topeka, Kansas . . . a beauty in the male & female voices, separate & when they twine . . . in the way an excellent band will bring a breathless looseness to their songs while leaving listeners wonder how they can be *that good* song after song . . .

Storybook Time: Chapter Eight of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May . . .

Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & various poems . . . & this week's featured artist is The Mighty Lemon Drops, & cuts from their excellent & rocking late-'80s work (the '80s did indeed rock, despite the shit on commercial radio) . . . the weather has turned in recent days from summer's endless bite to fall's transient splendors . . . a greater weight in the air, leaves changing colors, all changing & changing again, time moving along . . .

Webcasting to the globe & beyond from Ye Olde New England!

On this week's show:

New Rock Album: Dead Heart Bloom, *Strange Waves* (2010) . . . debut album by this New York dream pop band . . . there's a feel of Beatles, CSN&Y, the Velvet Underground, & Fleetwood Mac in these tunes, but their influences comprise their launching pad, not their nocturnal destination . . . sweet music, melancholy, sometimes darker than that . . .

Classic Rock Album: The Litter, *Distortions* (1967) . . . debut album of beloved Minneapolis, Minnesota garage rockers . . . known for their fuzzy classic "Action Woman," these boys also did killer covers by The Who, the Yardbirds, & Small Faces . . . fun stuff that bites, hangs on . . .

Storybook Time: Continuing Chapter Eight of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May . . .

Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & various poems . . . & this week's featured artist is North Carolina's Megafaun & cuts from their excellent new *Heretofore* EP . . . I am feeling that pull of autumn more & more as it nears . . . sometimes riding my bike home in the dark I am grateful beyond all named & known . . .

On this week's show:

New Rock Album: The Zephyrs, *Fool of Regrets* (2010) . . . This Scottish band has weird, charming ways, electric rocking it out at times, bringing in boy-girl harmonies at others . . . they had me with the album's opening song, "Creative Faith," a trippy number as one could wish, but won my heart forever with a later song about working for the recruitment agency . . . 'slavery under another name,' indeed . . .

Classic Rock Album: Paul Simon, *There Goes Rhymin' Simon* (1973) . . . Getting to be autumn & them's Paul Simon days . . . there are so many charming winners on this, Simon's third solo album . . . but the song that runs through my head of late is "One Man's Ceiling Is Another Man's Floor" . . . I think of it when I hear pounding from the apartment below . . .

Storybook Time: Continuing Chapter Eight of *The Brotherhood of Eternal Love, From Flower Power to Hippie Mafia: The Story of the LSD Counterculture* by Stewart Tendler & David May . . .

Readings from *Labyrinthine* fixtion & various poems . . . & this week's featured artist is The Eagles & cuts from their excellent farewell (for awhile) 1979 album, *The Long Run* . . .  yes, tis autumn, the daylight hours are fewer, the heat is letting up on its months-long hold . . . the leaves in northern New England are already changing colors, & soon this transition comes to Boston . . .
