Title: sick pachira
Post by: cenacle on January 18, 2005, 04:01:15 AM
here's one for the plant folks among our numbers...we have a sick pachira plant on our hands... our apartment does not get a lot of direct sunlight, and our plant's leaves are falling off, and its trunk is damp...we've taken care to water the plant and put it out in the sun when possible but northwest winter weather is not very good, being cold and wet...we've had this plant for about 5 months and would like to save it if at all possible...please advise in any way...thanks...

cenacle, I've never grown this one but I hear it's tollerant of low light and doesn't need a lot of watering. How often do you water it? I would wait until the soil get totally dry before watering it again. Stick your finger in the soil to make sure it isn't damp an inch or two down. Putting it out in the sun now and then is not a great thing to do. Plants have to be acclimated to the sun. I would not give it over 2 hours at a time if it's not used to sun. You can get them gradually used to it by hardening them off with a little sun the first day, more the second and so on. Hope this helps.
