Title: It took me 35 years to be an overnight sensation.
Post by: JRL on October 30, 2009, 12:14:16 AM
This morning I woke to a call from a dude in England. Seems he has a record company and he wants put a song I recorded with the band Watercolor on a compilation of California "garage bands" to be called California Funk. he has done several regional collections like that.

So we have been working on the liner notes for the tune on the phone. and internet.
He got quite excited when I told him I have a picture or two of the band.

Here is the kicker: he said if I had a copy of the 45 it would be worth several hundred dollars. Seems a lot of English and European collectors really go for unknown American bands from the 60s and 70s.

My one copy broke years ago, maybe 30 since I heard the song but he sent me an mp3 of it. Brings back some memories for sure.

well, good morning!

bet you dreamed of such a call 35 years ago.  But even with all the other sorts of calls that you've received since then, this one is very cool.
just goes to show, keep on doing what you love, whether or not the phone call comes.
(ask not for whom the phone rings, it rings for thee)

mazal tov, jrl!

It's been pretty fun. I am hoping this guy(quite an internet sleuth) can find any of the band members.

Listening to the tune, it is a crudely recorded period piece, with about a minute of street corner jive talk over the "introduction". But it grooves like a mother and the bass is LOUD!

Irie JRL,
Yeah man that's what I call music! Badasass!
Really liked the other bluesy tunes further down the play list.
I was listening Opaquelens pod cast 47, & his discussion with Sharon, about 22 mins in to it he sums up how I feel about how Mainstream music has gone since mid 80's.
Glad you finally get a crack of the whip!
Good luck with this one.
Respect
Z

So following up; He sent me a couple copies and our tune was the opening track and a nice picture of us is on the first page.
Most of the bands sound like they want to be James Brown in the worst way, quite a period piece.
Takes me right back to the ghetto days, when I was often one of 2 or 3 white dudes in the whole place.
