Title: Jiku/Cacti
Post by: CJ on January 17, 2005, 09:49:54 PM
Where`s Jiku?

He gotta know what and where by now, pretty around type of guy.

    Why my concern?

A cacti forum. Yea,things are slow right now but theres always a few questions. Just aquired a Terschekii myself,a unique rather handsome little cacti at this stage of the game, about 6" high and 5.5" wide. 8 ribs and very very spiny.

     You all take care-CJ

Yea,Cenacle,there was a cacti forum.

       Jiku moderated it.

MSSmith does a suburb job of identififying whoever has bought whatever at the nursery or hardware store, and besides is a master of subspecies identification, He could and does define different Trichs as to both their internal and external structures, as oppossed to just superficial visual simularities.

In other words,a true professional of cacti identification,as oppossed to what just might pass by description in the nursery trade. Not a problem for me,since i have learned the differences. For a major part, because of MSSmith.

Yet I have nothing but appreciation for main nursery vendor I aquire from. Good solid individual, with a knowledge base of his own, who has taught me a few things also...especially on the practical level. It`s paid off for me in spades...

Yes, jiku moderated the cactus cultivation forum and I moderated the indentification forum. I was totally reliant on MS Smith, to whom i offered the moderators job at the time; which he declined. Although i have a lovely collection of cacti, which i have grown for 25 years the taxonomy is still a mystery.

Yes,I have seen some pics of your Juul`s Giants. They were nothing short of magnificent.

I apologize also for forgetting your mod status, and also, you are here.

So I have someone to refer to.

Just by my memory of those Photos,It must be pretty nice, (green and sunny) where you reside

I`d rather not post photos directly, but mabe someday I can send a few photos out to whoever interested, having learned,(pretty computer shakey at times) to do so.

     Again,my apologies.

Cactus, damn, I love them!  Thanks for the kind words folks, your much too kind. :D

I've gathered a bit more for the next revisions to my Sacramental and Medicinal Cacti but just haven't put my mind to putting it all together.  It will be nice though and will not only address Trichocereus (which there isn't a whole lot more to say about from my perspective), but will be looking at further clarification of what plants truly should be honored as being called "peyote" and some which have been honored with the name which don't deserve it.  I've touched on this a bit in the past, but will sort of set the record straight.
