Anyone have any experiance growing autoflowering plants? I have some seed and was wondering if its worth my while. Can a 12" plant really be any good? :smoke1

So you discriminate against plants do you? I thought this was "Spirit PLANTS" boards. Isn't the genus cannabis sativa (and indica) a spirit plant? Hasn't it been used for 1000's of years even to the present day as a religious sacrement?

Come on.... LW merely stated that this forum never has been a place for discussion of cannabis. He didn't say or imply that you, or anyone else are not welcome.
I don't really have a problem with the discussion of such, per say, but I think the reason we have shunned these kinds of threads, is that there are already hundreds of other forums that deal specifically with cannabis growing or consumption or whatever. They also tend to attract the kind of attention that we aren't looking for. I would say, if you need specific tips on such things, feel free to ask but you may or may not get the kind of reply you are looking for.
Please though, keep the name calling and accusations of discrimination out of our forums. We don't need it and won't tolerate it. :smoke2:

zaka: Here's the beauty of the auto-flowering strains from a marketing stand point...
The plants can't be cloned. Make a cutting and it roots/flowers at the same time. No such thing as an auto-flower mother plant, as far as I know. So the marks are forced to come back to the seed dealers for more fuckdup genetics every season.
Meanwhile, out here on da prairie, a grower with an outdoor patch of sinsi hindu kush/ak-47 knows that any seed produced will prolly be a cross with the local wild auto flowering ruderalis and throw the seeds away in order to maintain genetic purity. The first cross is reported to be ok. However, the second generation of seeds produces the coveted strain japoholic desires and is considered junk not worthy of propagation.

Kind of random question, though: When I grow plants (vegetables and the like), I like to use true-breading, heirloom varieties. Now, I don't know much about cannabis cultivation, but it seems like everyone uses hybrid genetics (and as LW points out, using hybrid seeds is kind of like selling your soul to the seedmen -- you become beholden to them).
Are there folks who use non hybrids, or has the marketing of hybrid genetics been complete?
There are non hybrids available. Land race genetics of pure indica and sativa have been maintained. (Mexican, Thai, Afghani, Nepali, Etc)
However there is nothing wrong with the current state of cannabis, imo. The only genetic manipulation I don't like is the introduction of the basically non-active ruderalis genes into the indica/sativa strains to produce auto-flowering plants.
Most genetics available (with the exception of feminized strains) can be propagated by seed. And the commercial strains developed tend to be potent and not prone to producing hermaphrodites due to years of painstaking research and development.
However, I do get the impression that some seed producers and vendors may have an interest in passing off feminized seeds in order limit the number of male plants. While many growers don't question their luck at having 10 out of 10 seeds turn out female, others dislike the practice due ot the inability to propigate the strain by seed.
