Title: Hate Mongers Meet laughingwillow....
Post by: laughingwillow on July 07, 2009, 02:39:35 PM
So, I was driving home from class this afternoon, passing through a Jewish enclave, when I noticed  a couple of people standing on the median of the boulevard holding a mess of signs. Closer scrutiny revealed a church lady and a male companion holding up signs proclaiming God's hate of jews and God's hate of Israel.

As I slowly passed by the man I heard him say, "God hates the jews!"

"What gives you the right to speak for God?" I asked.

"God hates Jews!" was the only answer dude had.

"God hates sick fuckers who claim to speak for Him," I replied.

"God hates Israel!" he shouted.

"God still hates sick fuckers," I said.

As I was leaving the scene, I noticed multiple jewish people standing outside businesses and homes and looking perplexed. So I turned around for another pass. This time I stopped at a red light right next to the church lady.

"You sure have a vulgar mouth," she stated.

"You sure are hateful."

"What have you been doing at night?"

"Same thing I do in the day time," I replied. "Btw, What gives you the right to speak for God?"

Because God hates the Jews," she replied again. "And what do you care what we say? Its just a few words."

"Because hate mongers go to hell," I stated. That stopped the church lady in her tracks for just a fraction of a second.

"God hates Israel!"

"Hate mongers go to hell!"

"God hates jews!"

"God hates those who foment hate!"

Then the light turned green and I did anther u turn down Polk Blvd and headed to Mickey Dee's. A guy can sure work up n appetite shouting down hate mongers....

Well, we have a neighborhood with two temples, kosher deli's and a bunch of guys in hats and beards who were standing in doorways scratching their heads this afternoon. I'm guessing that makes an enclave.

Thanks, Z

If God doesn't hate the Jews, why did he had that Jesus asshole nailed up to a tree?

(Your protesters remind me of that church who specialized in hate protests (you know, the "God Hates Fags" people)...)

Well, amom, when I stumbled upon the hate mongers earlier today I was guessing they were members of the Phelps-loonies from Kansas, but upon closer scrutiny decided they prolly weren't part of that flock. (The guy with church lady was wearing an affliction mixed martial arts shirt and didn't look to be part of Phelp's clan.) They do stir up shit here in Des Moines quite regularly, though. Could have been them. But Phelp's bunch usually travels in larger groups than just two people, in my experience. And usually come off as crazier country-fucks than church lady and her consort. But who knows......

Btw, I found this quote on da net today.... "Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions" -- Thomas Jefferson

I'm totally impressed. I'm guessing that those particular hate mongers weren't carrying weapons of any sort (cause that might have put your heroic behaviour in the realm of high-risk)

When hate mongers are violent, my particular modus operandi tends towards the more cowardly sort.

applause and may there be many who take your tack. wondering if the lady is now re-thinking her possibilities of aiming her after-life towards hell.

LOL I don't know about heroic, sistah-j. I never felt physically threatened by church lady nor son of church lady. Besides, they were carrying so many hateful, spiteful signs that they couldn't have possibly had anything else in their righteous, little hands.

I did think it was funny that I was able to shout over the top of their breathy little vocal hatefest. And I really hope the locals who were watching the scene unfold were able to hear my replies to the hate mongers who decided to camp out on their corner. I don't think condemnation of this type of behavior should be limited to members of the targeted group. It might take an entire village to help some folks get a clue, imo. And I'd just as soon let the jewish folks, or any targeted group for that matter, know the community at large is behind them when the wackos come calling.

i fully agree.
a little shout-out at small-minded bigotry might be the ripple that grows into a wave.

("hey mom, what's that person doing?"
"Well, dear, that's called intelligent behaviour!"
"wow, really? i've never seen that before"
"yes, dear, i know. it's very rare..."
"can we get closer?"
"i don't see why not. i don't think it's contagious")

.....haha, oh but it is....once exposed to intelligent behaviour, there's no knowing what might develop.....

Irie Sista J,
I have to sort of disagree with you here.
If the US public were allowed to exercise their 2nd Amendment right, you might see a damn sight more respect. It's better to have guns in the hands of honest men & women, rather than just in the hands of the criminals & the tyrants.
If everyone has open-carry then it evens all the odds. Correct training from young would install values that it has a moral & righteous use.(check-out Frontsight)
Currently training is given by Bad Boys in the ghetto & they're getting instilled with Bad Boys values. Or on the other hand with tyrannic Gestapo values.
I wonder if the hatemongers would have even been on that roadside, if all the people around them had open carry? They would in fact be the one's at risk. This might make them stop to think about whether they even want to go out and spew hateful crap.
Saying that I would support them with free speech, but within the confines of the 1st Amendment.
Don't buy the bullshit, an armed public means less crime & 24hr protection for everyone.
For crying out loud US citizens, take back your country! This is what the rest of the world has been waiting for!
Respect

Thanks for the positive responses, folks.

I'm not really sure what the right response would be in times like yesterday. All I know is that my reaction was formulated while sitting at a stop light and then it took a few moments to come up with a better response than just calling them sick fucks. (But that did get their attention, as church people seem to hate vulgarity when it comes from the mouth of others, imo.)  Anyway, I doubt they will be back for more today, but if they do I plan on educating them on the fact that jesus was a jew and one of the 10 commandments is to love thy neighbor......

Btw, It really pisses me off that the churchy element of the far right is allowed to preach hate and then act surprised when the militant arm of their wack-job movement kills the people targeted for condemnation.  (The recent murder of the abortion provider in kansas is a prime example, imo.)

Good on 'ya LW. ..  You surely did the righteous thing when confronting such idiocy...  Even if it's fairly hard to enter into some truly intelligent dialouge with such haters, it is worth it to call them on their bullshit in a rapidfire way such as you did..  I'm betting it was fun too, eh??? :cool2 ----

Yea, and a really sad/scary thing is that the nuttier contingent of that spectrum don't even have the courtesy to feign surprise -- they explicitly sing praises to it. I heard people on the radio calling the recent murderer a "hero."

Hey, sal.

I'm guessing I didn't have a smile on my face when I looked the church lady in the eyes for the first time and and called her a sick fuck. However, as I got in the groove and with the program and got my message on target and could tell that church lady wasn't comfortable with my, ahem, contribution to the discussion, I think I did manage to crack a smile. Especially when the church lady called me a harpy and then I informed her that her soul was in jeopardy of eternal damnation and hell fire for her hateful/spiteful ways. hehe

She actually called you a harpy? Frankly, that displays more education than I usually attribute to such hate-mongers. I usually don't picture those people reading Greek mythology.

(On the other hand, I don't see where what you were doing was in any way harpy-like (harpish?), so maybe she really didn't know the myth or what the word means. Even colloquially the word is applied to women, and I've always pictured you as somewhat male.)

LOL I drove off laughing at that harpy comment. I'm thinking that the word is used out here on the prairie for a person who talks on and on without end. eg: Quit harping on the subject, please. I'm guessing her mind set was more colloquial than intellectual, but who knows what she has learned in church over the years.

harping
One entry found.

Main Entry:
2harp
Function:
intransitive verb
Date:
before 12th century
1 : to play on a harp
2 : to dwell on or recur to a subject tiresomely or monotonously —usually used with on

I'm curious as to how repeating over and over how God hates Jews and God hates Israel doesn't qualify as harping on a subject. Apparently church lady didn't appreciate my counterpoint harping. Heck, she didn't even realize we were playing the same instrument.

That's a good point. She probably thought harpy meant "one who harps," as opposed to "an annoying woman" (as it's defined in the dictionary) or a character from Greek mythology. I imagine that the dialect she speaks is similar to English in many ways, but holds some subtle differences.

Sometimes I wish the Christian conception of spirituality were an accurate one, so that when these jokers die Jesus could rip them a new asshole and assign them to 50 million years of community service, preferably in the gay section of heaven.

"similar to english" LOL

Here in Flat Sac we have a bucnh of "religous" refugees from Russia and the Ukraine(sp?). They are a very active, vocal minority. They do things like take over the student government at communitie colleges to push their pro birth, anti gay agenda. They are also very active on the high school level. They can be very intimidating. Also intolerant. I guess they come here for freedom of religon for themselves but they are ready to damn the rest of us to hell. So I guess I will see you all in hell, it wouldn't be hell without you!

Wow.  Thems some crazy events.  I can hardly imagine even coming face to face with such folks.  What deep dark pits they must have to protect them with such as signs and pointed hatred.  Pity.

There are still a lot of weird and hateful folks out there.

I can remember once, years ago, going on a drive with the women who would eventually become my wife. We were living in the city at the time, but driving through a small town near the small town that we now live in.

When we got the main square she freaked out.

"Oh my God. Are those people standing on the corner Ku Klux Klansmen? I didn't thing those people still existed!"

"Yep. Welcome to the country."

amom: To be fair, the rural scene you describe including klan members is predominately a southern affliction, I'm guessing. That scene wouldn't play out in rural Iowa, imo. However, as proven by the thread, hate mongers can be found virtually everywhere.

This was in the South, but not the deep south -- about 10 miles south of the Mason Dixon line, in a supposedly "free state."
