Title: Ayahuasca Tourism
Post by: Pachanoi on March 24, 2009, 04:54:45 PM
Hi!

I am new here and wanted to start off by saying I like the site. I also wanted to get some opinions on what you all think about taking one of these tours to Iquitos in Peru.

I have a long history of use of entheogenic plants. The one that has taken me the furthest is San Pedro. I firmly believe that you do not need to travel great distances to get lessons from the teachers, but I also have always wondered how valuable such experiences would be. I have looked around the Internet and have talked to a couple of guides. I have always been quite interested in the cultures down there and have always thought that an experience with one of the shamans would be very valuable.

It seems to me that the plants are the best guide, sometimes serving as the shamans themselves, but I am particularly interested in Ayahuasca which I have never communed with and am considering being guided through it.

I have talked to the Blue Morpho tours and they were actually very pleasent. I also talked to Jaya Bear, but got a rather bad vibe from here. This was about 4 years ago. I told her that I used cannabis for a back pain problem. She was very anti-cannabis. I realize that Ayahuasca and cannabis do not mix and was not intending to mix the two, but she seemed to think all cannabis users were "recreational and irresponsible". I felt her tone was somewhat hateful towards cannabis which I think is a rather harsh attitude. Cannabis may not mix with ayahuasca, but it does have good medicinal qualities.

I am starting to get turned off by the whole thing. There is a guy named Martin Ball who was advertising a tour he is giving the summer in Peru using Ayayhusaca and San Pedro, but he admits to never having been to Peru. He is also, well, rather egotistical:

Here are some links to Martin Ball: http://www.entheogenic.podomatic.com/ (http://www.entheogenic.podomatic.com/)
http://www.martinball.net/ (http://www.martinball.net/)

I would never pay this guy to do this kind of thing. He seems to think he is somehow the voice of God and only his reality is true, yet I am wondering how many of these American guides are crackpots like Martin Ball? How does one differentiate from the honest people and the rather delusional ones? Are the delusional people like this common

Thanks :tea:

Irie Pach,
Yeah his gig seems to be quite pricey.
Check out this site I found through Graham Hancock's site //http://www.ayahuascafoundation.org/
I'm thinking of traveling in Oct 09.

We got a couple members down in SA right now on their own. With their permission I will connect you with them. They might have some insight for you, being super experienced travelers in both senses of the word.

I´m an old-timer here at Spiritplants, in Iquitos right now and my personal recommendation is this group: http://www.infinitelightperu.com (http://www.infinitelightperu.com)

They just have a really good vibe, and make you feel comfortable and safe. They are also located away from the main caraterra-road between Iquitos and Nauta where many of the online groups are centerred around Iquitos. The area around the caraterra is less remote and a bit more accessible, so I feel like it gets a little more ´´static´´ and noise than perhaps the deeper jungle does. Infinitelight is up the Rio Ucuyali near a small village by the name of Genero Herrera, where I hear it is quite peaceful.

Outside of infinitelight, and if you would rather drink around Iquitos itself instead of going deeper into the jungle, Percy Garcia has a solid reputation and you can contact him through Alan Shoemaker (do a google search). There is another group that looks pretty good http://www.templeofthewayoflight.com (http://www.templeofthewayoflight.com) .

You really have two basic options. If you have more time, you can just wing it and let something open up; this option tends to be a bit cheaper than arranging for everything from outside of Iquitos. Or, if you don´t have so much time, arrange from outside of Iquitos.

hope this helps!

Hi,

I am heading to Blue Morpho this August. I've researched several other places commonly known in these forums, but have always felt drawn to Blue Morpho. I have communicated with a couple of the folks with Blue Morpho as well as several return guests who I have made acquaintance with online. Everyone has been very friendly and helpful.

I will certainly share my experience with this forum and look forward to hearing about your experience when the time comes. :)

ayuhasca and cannabis can be used together with any problem

I am from brazil , sometimes I go at SANTO DAIME church  in my city .
THE CANNABIS USE IS CALLED  SANTA MARIA  , and is used together with santo daime ayuhasca drink .

remenber that´s not all santo daime churchs that aceppt the cannabis use .

The santo daime religion was born in the hands of MESTRE IRINEU  a black man , sons of slaves , that learned form ayuhasca with the peruvian indians .

After drinking the holly tea , The mother of god ( nossa senhora ) , told him to share the holly drink with the world .

After the death of master IRINEU  , another master could come , his name was PADRINHO SEBASTIÃO .  That used cannabis as medicine with the ayuhasca drink .

so dont let fool people , that wants to know all the truth , let you down !!

the only truth that exist , lives on your heart ! keep your faith

!!!

with you travel to Brazil , you can meet ayuhasca very easy , in many religions . There are also jurema religion! !!

other day I told more brazil secrets of our psychedelic culture ..

thanx a lot ! sorry for my english !!

jah guide !! I and I  :smoke2:

Quote from: "kundalini"ayuhasca and cannabis can be used together with any problem

It depends upon the tradition. As you say, it's commonly used in some Santo Daime congregations.  But some other traditions not so much. I once heard a Shipibo curandero say that it was something that should definitely not be done; it clouds the mind and keeps one from
hearing the voice of the vine.

People like to think there are absolute, objective answers about these kinds of things, but there are not. Cultural context and conditioning play a big role in what people find acceptable or not.

I wouldn't use cannabis in conjunction with the tea, but that is a personal choice, based upon how I work with the tea and what my intentions are. But it is a choice that everyone has to make for themselves (unless they are a participant in an established tradition, in which case the decision is already made for them).

I am in Iquitos, Peru and if you want to contact me about programs, curanderos, flights getting here, where to saty, etc. please do. you can reach me at alanshoemaker at hotmail.com

Conference is also looking very good this year, surprisingly... I was a bit concerned that the economic woes of the World would put a damper on shamanism but it´s not working out that way. Seems people will put the beach vacation on hold but shamanism is about working on your self and others and so we have more early bird sign ups than ever before.
