the longer this community is at this place, the more it seems to be becoming something more than a 'refugee camp'...also, the eddy will be gone a month scenario is not playing out...i wish him the best but i think we should set up more of the community here...which means more forums...should we have all the old ones? it can be done in a snap and we can figure out mods thereafter...i'd also like forums for the radio station, the chat, and a dreams forum i mentioned before...oh and a forum devoted to journey discussions, to put it euphemistically...what does everyone else think?
*cough•cough*cough* goes back to being sick
I agree, but let's build from the ground up and figure out just what we want.
I mean no disrespect to Eddy whatsoever, but if we continue to wait for the old board, we may never build a new one, so I agree with cen, and JRL...
cen: I'm guessing you already know my opinion on this issue.
I'm also guessing that there are more than a few spf'ers who are jonesing for a sally forum. I do declare that many never appeared to venture outside of spf salvia space. Ever. hehe
lw
I would like to give eddy until the end of this week to turn up before i start making serious efforts... although i dont see why we cant start up the full forum and copy and paste to spf if it returns.
I am still aghast ... scarcely believing we wont get the whole of the spf archive back in the public domain.
What we need is a general entheogen grow forum. That is the top priority in my estimation. Salvia is fine but I gave up trying to grow that fickle plant in my environment. I have loads of new plants I'm growing that I want to talk about such as lagochilus, rosea rhodiola and some others. If you never heard of them, I'll explain why they are worth growing.
I say do not wait for eddy one instant. Even if he came back we should still build our own community. He made it amply clear that he had lost what interest he once had. He deserves credit for building it but since he seems to be done, the ball is in our court. I see several people have offered technical help and monetary help. I'll kick in some bucks and will help ouit wherever I'm needed. Are we going to build it here or on a separate domain? I vote for LW to be a major figure in the new spf. ATGS, Winder, JRL, Cassie and some others are going to be a lot of help also.
Stoney
good ideas Stoney...
I agree 100% stoney.
cassie: It would appear there are many of us who would prefer starting anew rather than waiting for eddy. His site could be up tomorrow and still 'd rather be here, now.
lw
Doh! I didn't read all of your post before agreeing 100%, stoney. hehe
I'm afraid I'm more of a war-time leader. Too much of a lightning rod to be of much use in a management role, imo. (Too long off the reservation, if you will.)
But I'll always have an opinion and prolly a few bucks to throw at the community building effort.
lw
I don't want eddy running the show anymore either but i do want the archives back and, if possible, the name spiritplants.com to be returned to the community which made it what it is/was. That's the only reason i am waiting on eddy ... that, and i'd like an explanation from him.
i dont think we need that many admins, but we do need moderators for sure...it is frustrating that it may be that nothing from the old site will survive even to be archived, but so be it...it hurts, we take it, and move along...
what i personally would like to see is a continual dialogue on all levels about what people want and dont want...that keeps community fresh...
that said, we also need forums for the kinds of things we come here to talk about...enths, politics, art, etc...
so should some new forums be added or should we wait? i hung around the world forum a lot, and some of the others too...i'd like to get more a feeling of being underway, if you know what i mean...
it's strange how something can change so quickly...
I'd be happy to moderate the "salvia plane" again at least until things get started.
and in passing
our glasses raise,
rememberance of warmth filled
electronic days.
It's not a trip to add more forums. People have things to say about all topics and it's nice to start 'organized' (oh thank you personal ADD coach Sandra Maynard).
If what is written here can be backed up to avoid that quicksand feeling if the server freaks, that'd be great.
Let mods claim their territories and let the games begin.
(with much appreciation)
and p.s. this colour scheme is a little fluorescent for my taste, but if that's what there is, so be it.

cen: Looks like you is at the helms of this ship and there are many of us willing to sign on. I say, "Lash the mast and full speed ahead, Cap'n. No time like the present."
The spf.com moniker is nothing without the people. And I also saw in another thread that there are many variations currently available, spf.org being the most viable, imo.
As for an explaination from eddy.... what's the point? I'm sure this all fits into his master plan somehow. But I'll just wait for the cliff notes on this one. I'm guessing a fella like me will prolly understand that version a whole lot better.
lw
 I miss The cave  and the salvia plane , hey but at least we have the groove, your doing a good job JRL 8)
I feel kinda odd doing so, but I offer up my meager services as a mod, should there end up being an orphan forum when the dust clears.
tranceman, your wish is granted! heh
X, we'll get you a forum to mod, and thanks :)

I remember seeing something called 'wayback machine', or similar that allows old cyber pages to be retrieved.. Anyone with 'puter savvy know if this can be used to retrieve all the great info from the old boards?... Seems like we will be charting a course on our collective own eh? Hell, maybe this is something that always resided in the back of Eddys' mind anyway... I do recall when I first came aboard, hearing Eddys state that he wished to see the board be open-ended in the sense that the collective body of members and their participation would shape the place instead of having a true 'captain of the ship', calling the shots... Could be this is an aspect of Eddys' masterplan... At any rate, I say avast ye mateys, full speed ahead..... senorsal
When I finally reopened the Q & A - which took a LOT of soul - searching, let me tell you! - I had destryed all the forum files, so, the first problem I was faced with was how to rebuild without having to re-invent the wheel, so to speak.
The answer came to me in a flash: All of the good search engines, or almost all of them, keep caches of the internet. Why? Damn if I know, but they do.
So, in locating all the html pages I could - and you be DAMN surprised at what I was able to locate - all I had to do was (using the cached html pages as templates) recreate those pages using perl code.
BTW: Here is the original forum - reconstructed using cached html pages as templates and then reverse engineering the perl code to produce the pages:
//http://www.entheogen.st
Obviously, the better you can code perl, the easier this is, but I believe it is the answer you guys are looking for.
One last thing here: If you guys don't want my help, or if you just don't want me around, then, hey, just tell me to bug off and I'll leave you alone.
Peace,
Trevyn
Good job on the new forums. I'd still like to see a general plant cultivation forum because the salvia people need a separate forum for their thing. I'd be willing to moderate it unless someone else is champing at the bit to do it. I'm site mod over at botanical swap and my fav forum is the cultivation one. Other than that, I could send in a few bucks to help out.
It would be great to get the spiritplants.com domain but if eddy is not communicating or doesn't want us to have it, how about a .org, .net, or one of the couple dozen other endings you can get? Maybe even .ca, .uk or something. You don't have to be based in those countries to get the ending.
LW, sorry to hear you're burned out on the admin thing. Going to let someone else take a crack at it, I guess.
Trevyn, good job finding those caches of old pages. We may never get the old pm's but maybe the next best thing.
Stoney
Trevin: The info above sure sounds to be a potential boon for this community. As for the cold shoulder, I'm guessing most of us just don't know you. (I've been trying to remember your name and seem to recall elendil/jb having stories about past battles with a person of the same nick?) Not that that would mean squat around here, but I have been curious since reading your initial post.
Thanks for the info.
lw
Hi 'ya Trevn.. Yeah, don't feel as if it's a cold shoulder or somesuch... I was thinking just last evening, "I remember that guy, but not the details/wasn't he a mod or wheeel at some other site, etc etc... It's likely most of the old SPF'ers have a certain amount of neurological handicapps, and of course, such must be considered  ---- I say welcome bro---- senorsal
Aha! I found you! :!:
I have to commend you (cenacle?) on starting this place up. On the surface, it looks nicer than the old digs- I just hope that enough of the good seeds (and none of the bad seeds) join in.

WOAAAAAAAAHHHHH
UPGRADE THIS FORUM ASAP
Unless its patched...
PHPBB 2.0.6?!?!!??!?!!? Were all gonna be owned :P
If patched, please disregard.
Current PHPbb is 2.0.11
----
"On the surface, it looks nicer than the old digs"
At least someone appreciates the default PHPBB Layout :P
Nitro, the PHP has actually been patched for the exploit you're thinking of so its cool :) .. This was knocked up as a temporary measure but when I add the attachment mod, I'll see about getting it upgraded as well.
Andy
Phew.. :) I just saw the version and was like WOAH.
Good to see your on top of it.
Yeah, i had to update my attachment mod.
I wonder if people would enjoy some of the many phpbbhacks there are.
Points mod, bank mod, casino mod, fun things to go along side the serious side of SPF :P
Smartor ezportal page is great for an index also.
But when things get more concrete we can figure those things out. Maybe a good list of hacks should be posted here so we can get some votes on the features people want.
hey trevyn, hey TB, welcome...
i love when andy and nitro talk admin techie talk, no clue what theyre saying but the site feels safer when they do heh :P
hey guys, saw the link in chat so i checked it out(cass gave me a few gentle shoves in the direction..), looking good i must say...
well im happy to take on any role ya throw at me, happy to mod once again,
will be real good to see either community up and running again, did miss y'all w/ spf down
Yeah, uhmhmmm, just like that.
(Avery sits comfortably in his computer chair for the first time in a while.)
Nitro, if you know of some good hacks please do post whats available that you think might apply. I had actually thought of some kind of gallery hack where you can post images under your username, sorta like overgrow.com forums ? Not sure if there is something that does that but would be cool if there was.
Andy
hahhaha, what a coincidence andy :) I just posted a thread on that exact subject before reading your post :)
in The Site, titled gallery
Cool, Cassie and Visionary bear are back.
My bad if untrue, but I`d like to see some form of cacti forum back. I t has worth, and has established expert(s).
Myself, I can continue posting on green world,(and learn a little too). But cacti should mabe have at least a simple forum(s) for it. Mssmith can identify till the cows come home.I`d like to see solutions worked out on how much sun, best firts, pot size.
Gardening problems.(I think,by experience, the small pot size syndrome is wery vulnerable,I personally like growing smilar species cacti(mostly), in groups of two to four,in Large pots)
Also I think I am closing in on, one approach app. of water/firtmethod, so so life isn`t so tedious, may pan out in the real world also. For anyone. Even if you put your plants back in for the winter. The system can be detachable for the winter.
Just some thoughts.
mushroom planet and cacti club forums are now up...enjoy :P
trade winds
shaman's hut
are you experienced?
by special arrangement, we have a new forum called cannabis cafe, mod'd by our very own nitroburn...puff one in his honor :P
SWIM puffs in honor of Nitro, Cenacle, all you movers, shakers, instigators & creators.
How about Cybershack? I liked it, it didn't get a lot of action, but what did happen there was very interesting.
hehe 8)
