lookin good

whats that mix you are using?

in 'the bush' which is more often beach side suburbs
these guys live in little more than beachsand with some organic matter

they sprout up under other bushes and palms after being voided by a bird

so yeah. sandy loam to organic enriched sands

I am just using miracle gro potting mix. I am thinking if it was growing outdoors in a tropical climate in pots it might require a more well drained soil since it is prone to rotting.

I only water when it needs it. I haven't let them wilt slightly between waterings but I might do that when they are a little older.

Anybody have any ideas about a mixture for growing plants that are native to coastal/ or beachside conditions?

I used shredded spaghnum moss and planted each seed individually in a small square plastic pot.  Then the pots were covered with plastic wrap
( kind of like saran wrap). I used a humidity dome and heatmat.

Germination takes 4-8 weeks. I mean it isn't consistant where they all germinate at the same time. I think they tend to be irregular germinators.

Here is another picture i think it was taken a month later.

These plants tend to be slow growing it took a long time to get the first set of leaves to fully develop.
