Title: SpiritPlants Radio 5th Anniversary & Expansion Project
Post by: cenacle on October 21, 2008, 02:32:22 PM
Hi all,

To celebrate five years of webcasting to the globe, we are planning an expansion of SPF Radio's programming beginning in November. This programming will begin on the weekends & will be in 6-8 hour blocks, repeating several times a day so listeners in various time zones will be able to listen. Expansion to other days will occur in 2009.

We're currently looking for audio files related to psychedelics to build the SPF Radio archives library: lectures, interviews, and music. An email sent to me off list at http://spfradio.yage.net (http://spfradio.yage.net) --will soon be updated as well.

This is a community radio, which means its contents will be provided by & for the SpiritPlants online community. There will also be outreach to other like-minded individuals and communities. We can & will follow the lessons of Huxley, McKenna, Leary, Lily & others who urged that psychedelics be used knowledgeably as part of an individual's life-long quest for wisdom. Please write to me if you have content to offer, questions regarding the station's expansion, and/or you wish to be added to the SPF Radio mailing list.

Further updates will be forthcoming.

Peace,
Raymond

Sounds good to me, hopefully it will be just as it used to be or even better! Not many people have dial up or slower connections anymore, tho, are you thinking about a lower end stream this time around?

I think we should have both high and low kps streams, but this is not top of the list right now. Essentially, getting more good and relevant programming is, now that this first step is taken (or cluster of steps: contacting Fuzz for her status, getting access to the radio's web page for making updates, posting about these new plans here at the forum).

So, essentially, now it's time to ready for a full weekend of programming, beginning in November. I'm thinking toward the following:

1) My show will remain at its time-slot, 3 hours, no changes.
2) There will be re-broadcasts of my live show, and also shows from my archives
3) There will be time devoted to archival lectures by and interviews with figures like McKenna, Leary, Huxley, etc.
4) Some time devoted to classic live rock shows from the likes of the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd
5) There might be some time devoted to spoken word, readings, from various authors' works
6) There might be some time for "old time radio" from the classic era back in the 1930s-1950s. I recently came into a great stash of this stuff!

As said previous, there will be 6-8 hours of programming, repeated several times a day so hopefully whatever time zone you're in, there will be a good time for you to listen.

This is very much an experiment, work-in-progress. I will post how things are shaping up at this forum, on the SPF Radio mailing list, and also discuss it at chat when I am there.

And again, I cannot emphasize enough that I am working toward this being a community project. I think that will take some time, but the effort has begun :)

Additional note: after an email exchange with Fuzz today, and also confirming with the other mods/admins here, I've changed the moderator for this forum from Fuzz to myself. She is in India and not able to work on the radio station at this time.

For now as well, I will also be the webmaster of the radio's web page -- http://spfradio.yage.net (http://spfradio.yage.net) -- it will be updated by sometime in November.

Meanwhile, I am interested in getting audio files from SPF folk, and asking if anyone wants to co-mod this forum with me. Let me know. Thanks.

I have a few TED talks and Terrence Mckenna recordings. How would you like us to get these things to you?

May I say, I think some comedy from Bill Hicks is required! I have a few albums of his...

Great ideas, Sid. I've set up an online archive file storage account for the radio station. I will PM you the details, and if anyone else needs them to send along files, let me know. Thanks!

Here's an update for everyone:

11/22/08 is the tentative date for the radio re-launch. Since my last post, there have been a cache of new files added to the SPF Radio online archive. SPF member Lain has also expressed interest in doing a Saturday show, to follow after mine. Please contact me if you have psychedelics-related audio (interviews, lectures, etc) to offer.

Still to come is a needed update to the radio's website. I expect it will include a schedule of programming and some other relevant information.

Will update y'all again soon! :)

Much appreciate the gesture, but I have to assume that to hear this stuff, one must have access to headphones or at least a computer with speakers attached eh??? Senor has neither. (Library facilities being what they are)...  Guess I'll have to keep marching to that internal different drummer eh??  ((Jeez what infernal racket that guy puts out :smoke:3 ))

Sounds like Senor needs to make a trip to the Goodwill thrift store sometime soon :) Hopefully, the one near you is as decent for cheap bargains as the one near me :)

Yeah, my Goodwill is really cool. (the place serves as a distribution center for around 20 Goodwills in N fl and S Ga)..  Lots of good bagains, Monday 1/2 price day etc....  At the encampment I stay at, we have a couple of car batteries running a 10 inch BW TV and a 10 inch DVD player as well as a radio...  The owner of the stuff cleans a Gas station lot in exchange for free battery charge ups. ..  Only slight problem is that the guy has a collection of about 200 slasher/heavy violence type movies...  Not exactly the coolest stuff to be watching in the dark woods at night

Haha! Scary stuff! Especially on Halloween :P

I'm wondering if the computers at your library can open CDs or DVDs? If they do, and you can get a pair of cheap headphones at the Goodwill, we might be in business. So the question is do the library computers have sound cards for use with headphones. If so, you could even listen to my radio archives online. Let me know.

Thanks to Fuzz, who provided me with the log-in information, the SpiritPlants Radio Blog is back in business! Check it out here:

http://spiritplantsradioblog.blogspot.com/ (http://spiritplantsradioblog.blogspot.com/)

Added a new entry and made a few minor adjustments, mainly just good to have access now to all parts of the station. Still shooting for 11/22/08 date for expanded weekend broadcasting. Working on getting Lain's show into the mix too. Taking this step by step. More soon.

Hi all,

The nickel summary is that the radio station is on course for its 5th anniversary & re-launch this weekend. Among the many shows scheduled are a jazz show featuring a live John Coltrane performance from the early '60s; the underground superhero comedian Bill Hicks; a Pink Floyd show from 1970; a lecture by Terence McKenna from 1994; and a reading of Jack Kerouac's novel, On The Road.

My show, "Within's Within: Scenes from the Psychedelic Revolution," will be on, both a new episode and a couple of classic ones from the archives. Also, a brand new SpiritPlants Radio exclusive program, to be hosted by DJ Lain. More details on all of this and more to come in the next few days. Very excited!

Peace,
Raymond

The website is now built, nothing fancy, but it will show you the station's new look:

And Kemp has linked the radio link up above to this site too.

Take a look!
