This is still up for debate but seems to be part of the general trend toward an Orwellian society. Big brother is watching you!
From what I've heard is that all of the worlds messages (email, fax, computer etc) are monitored by the highest security. I don't think it's used for common criminals, rather for more critical stuff. It could be abused, but we'll never know. This has been happening for a number of years. There is a backdoor to every system as they say. Even Google has a special room for the listening devices. I don't even want to say the name of monitoring program, but it's easy to figure out. They have much of the info processed in a place in SW United States - in these funny shaped geodesic buildings. I've also watched programs about this from Spain on a foreign tv station, but have yet to see it mentioned in main stream media? hmmm? =)
Yeah it sounds like that article deals with the local police or maybe federal agencies in the UK. So that would be more relevant to the ordinary citizen that the above one.
Speaking of $py tech - Check out Van Eyck (sp?) technology! Obviously of use to the gov't or to ha'kers.

This business has been going on for some time and went into overdrive under shrub's mis-administration. The Brits are looking to do it openly. At least shrub kept it mostly hidden.
You think Obama is going to undo all of shrubs abuses? Don't count on it, he will enjoy the extra powers shrub abused and use them against whoever he wants.
Am I missing something? Where do you get "Brittain to monitor all emails" from the very limited amount of info on that page?

It was on Digg, misspellings (its Britain (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britain_(disambiguation)) ffs) and tired cliches* all ready to c&p... It sounds like its yet more insightful content from alex jones but I may be wrong - after all plenty of mooks out there who are only too happy to ape thier role model ;p
Here (//http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10/15/comms_data_bill_speech/) is some info from the delightfully sarcastic peeps at el reg. So not exactly as bad as is made out but obviously not great. The funny thing is that although no one has actually read this communications bill they are attributing to it what has been happening through GCHQ and menwith hill for decades as part of a joint UK / US project to spy on all communication (not just that of their own subjects / citizens), does the overly macho sounding carnivore (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnivore_program) ring any bells? But hey why waste time with troubling things like facts when we can enjoy the delights that only ignorance can bring to imagined schodenfreud.
