I'm fairly certain that at this stage in the game, most are fatigued to the point of distraction concerning the upcoming 'changing 'o the guard' in the U.S. political arena... That said, I wonder how many saw/listened to the debate and who you saw as the more coherent/persuasive... I gotta say that I was surprised by this last debate.. To me, it seemed as if McCain was the victor... Not that I will be voting Repub, but I have a very uncomfortable feeling that Johnny boy scored big with his "Joe the plummer" economics... I can imagine that there will be many undecided voters and those of a sort of stripped down simplistic mindset that will hear McCains ploy as a simple message that Obama will 'hurt the lil guy and be economic ruin for small business... If it's true that the vote is going to be decided by between 5-8% that are still undecided, then I'm cringing at the peril we are in... Hell, it could always come down to such a close race that the evil ones in Fla will once again manipulate the true count and hand us another President courtesy of Deibold shenanigans.. I mean it HAS happened before eh??
Indeed. That's why McCain's blathering about ACORN is so ludicris. They are the ones that ripped the fabric of what democracy we had left.
But McCain looked so parchment-faced. He blinked all the time, and when he was asked why Palin was better than Biden, he said he was proud of her and of her husband. It's all so big uncle condescendingly acknowledging someone lesser. Proud of...
You guys know the American population far better than i - will people fall for this?
Such a difference in style - repeating the same slogans again and again vs. using mind and speed to pick up nuances.
Senor - i'm hoping the florida fiasco will not replay here, but after watching bush get re-elected, now it all seems so frightening. Anything's possible. Palin? oh lord.
And then again, Reagan was elected.
it's a litany of crazies after crazies.
i'm all over the map here, but i did see something of the debate and i felt nobody made any sounds even slightly resembling a memorable moment.
if joe the plumber is the celebrity of the day, then at least there'll be material for saturday night live.
senor and all,
stop being afraid! mccain has nothing left in his case to shoot. he's partnered himself with a hicky end-time lunatic, he comes across as blithely as Granpa Simpson, and last night he told women their prenatal "health" is unimportant to him. obama is ready to take the office, and to do his best to get things toward better days. he's said it will take time, it won't be pretty, and it will call for sacrifice and bi-partisanship. but he's ready. i believe that in my heart and in my skeptical mind.
just vote, senor, step right up and vote. and make sure others get to the polls too!! i'm hopeful, and i'm tired of being afraid. we've got a lot of problems in the US, and problems around the world that the US helped cause, and can help cure.
i do not believe mccain has made a case at all that he is ready to take it all on, and obama has. this will be one presidential election year when i cast my vote proudly.
p.s.--joe the plumber is neither named joe, nor is he a licensed plumber. his name is sam, and he didn't pay his taxes last year. asked who he was voting for, he said, "not telling."
for once I agree almost wholeheartedly with cenacle
unfortunately these rare events have only ever served to portend ill things to come
so I agree, but be afraid... be very afraid

I don't think we were watching the same debate, senor. Mclame presented himself in a terrible fashion, imo. He looked wooden, mechanical and came off as a blustery old codger, imo.
Obama knows the score. He doesn't need to throw any knock out punches. Obama is even winning the traditional gallup poll by a couple of points and I doubt that one takes into account the massive amount of new voters entering the system this election cycle.
The fact is that mclame is still throwing red meat at the traditional republican base. he's not reaching out to undecided voters. He's not making inroads with younger voters. He's hammering at the far right, bringing froth to their fundamental mouths. But I have news for you.... There are only os many far right radicals the repubs can fire up with that hateful/spiteful rhetoric.
Btw, don't you think that Obama would have plenty of ammo if he wanted to take off the gloves and fight by character assassination?
Palin's husband has until recently been a member of a group looking to remove Alaska from the Union. She actually gave a speech to this group as governor of Alaska last year by video. Their website is full of hateful feelings toward the U$. This is far more treasonous and un-american than anything or anyone Obama has socialized with in the past.
The fact is that Obama is taking the high road and desires to reach across the isle to the repubs when elected. And he wants to show that now, before the election.
Trust me, far more undecided voters were swayed by Obama's presidential air than McLame's meaningless attacks on character and past associations.
So I say again, if you saw Mclame win that debate, you were watching a different program than I was.

Sal: Do me a favor and clink the provided link. It should take you to a debate article with a picture taken during the debate in question. Then tell me again how that guy came off as more presidential....

As far as Presidential Persona I wholeheartedly agree that McCan't looked like someones senile grandpa. (caught that incessant blinking as well sis), but, as you suggest LW; I guess we did percieve a different debate... I'm ill at ease when I think of all the easily swayed slices of the voting block; those that can unfortunately be counted on to jump on the bandwagon of whosoever crafts the most jingoistic heaping of fearmongering rhetoric... As seen with the re-election of Reagan/Bush Sr., and others, there appears to be a substantial number of "gullibles" to be manipulated... Yeah, Obama looked wonderfully Presidential as he approached the chair. Much like he does at any given time. He projects assurance/confidence/poise and preparation, as well as an eagerness to present his visions and ideas... McCan't... Well, we all see what we get from him: (Everyone prolly has an old curmudgeon relative just like him... Still and all, I am wary, hoping for that breath of new breeze, but cynical enough to not bet the farm on the outcome.... 19 days....whew........ PS, Who wants to bet that Al Queda-Taliban does something on US soil within 100 days of the new administration just to test the mettle?????
ha! sal, i'm not a betting woman, but if i were, i'd betcha an aloe plant that something would stir (at least you're thinking after november, not before)
Bush, by the way, has told Syria that he'll push for withdrawal from the Golan Heights if they agree to cut Iran tiesl and if they do it before election, he'll be extra pleased.

Report: Bush offered to press Israel to quit Golan if Syria cuts Iran ties
By Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondent
U.S. President George W. Bush has apparently offered his Syrian counterpart, Bashar Assad, to press Israel to withdraw from the Golan Heights if Damascus promises to cut its relations with Iran, the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Jareida reported on Friday.
According to the report, Bush made the offer in a handwritten letter transferred to Assad by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
A Palestinian source close to Abbas told the newspaper that the U.S. had presented the offer in a meeting with Syrian officials day earlier.
If Assad agrees to the American proposal, he will carry out his end of the deal in the coming weeks, said the report.
Bush is keen on implementing the deal before the upcoming U.S. elections, said the newspaper, in order to significantly advance the peace process before the end of his term.
The Palestinian source said that Abbas and his entourage were unaware of the content of Bush's letter, as it was meant to remain covert and away from diplomatic eyes, according to the report.
Even the American envoy in Damascus was not privy to this information, said the newspaper.
Despite this, the Palestinian source said that Abbas' latest visit to Damascus was intended for the principle purpose of passing on this letter, said the newspaper. While on the visit, he scheduled no meetings with Palestinian officials or other diplomats in the area.

one only wonders what's on the books before his shift's up.
Hey judih, if shrub does "press" Isreal to do something, do you suppose they will yawn or will they promise to "think it over" before rejecting it? I wouldn't give 2 cents for shrub's promise of doing something like that. A lame offer from a lame duck.
Here's a quote from McLame during the last debate.

Fifty percent of small business income taxes are paid by small business.

Michael Kinsley: “Although I really should run this past Paul Krugman before going public, the evidence seems to suggest that as much as 100 percent of small business income taxes are paid by small business.â€
