Should we let new users confirm their own registrations?

I was thinking that maybe we could let new users confirm their own registrations again, like it used to be long ago. Currently, an admin has to confirm a user registration and this is acceptable however, it is possible we may be loosing a new poster or two this way. Some people might give up if it takes a day or whatever before they can reply to a post. In some ways this might be good but, we haven't had any issues in a long time with registrations so... what do you guys think?
We haven't had any issues because of the measures in place.
kemp, I was meaning to ask you if you were still able to keep on top of that. You took over the approvals after Cassie went AWOL and stopped doing it. It is kind of a grind which is why everyone was happy to let you take over.
The present system is working but if there is going to be a delay in approving new members, it might be good to consider going back to the old way. At the very least we would need one of those bot eliminators that make you copy numbers and letters from a box.
yes, in favour of letting members verify their own registrations if we can institute the bot-blocking code copier thing.
That seems like a good tool. There's even one with added voice option for extra accessibility.
Yes, we do have the captcha (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha) tool for registrations which supposedly makes it very difficult (if not impossible) for a bot to register. This will not stop a troll from registering and being an ass however, there are many ways to deal with them. Having looked through old emails to the admin and being around more I have noticed that the person (I know exactly who it was) who was causing the majority of the issues back in 2005 seems to have given up, at least for now. I also know this person will be back again someday but, we can deal with that then. (Spiritplants and other entheo sites have been the target of a certain troll since at least 1997; he comes and goes but he will almost certainly never stop playing his game).
Anyhow, it looks like it is a close race! The ayes have it for now.... but who knows how it will turn out... </end sarcasm>
