Andy has requested that we upgrade to phpbb3, basically the newest version of the forum software. There are many good reasons to upgrade with new security features being a major one.
Actually this isn't so much of an upgrade as it will be a clean install of the new software. What this means is, many things will be different and look different. However, we won't lose any of the posts or data.
The only major issue I am foreseeing is the current style/skin won't work. Basically, we will have to create a new one or use one of the many out there that have already been created and are available for download.
PK did an excellent job with the current one and I'll see if he can help with the new one.
Site design really isn't my thing but I should be able to adjust one of the available styles so that we can have something that will look acceptable, until we get something more permanent.
Please feel free to ask questions, offer suggestions or whatever. I don't really have a date set to do this but I am thinking in a couple weeks or less. 8)
can the radio have a bigger link at the top? as part of finally committing to this project?
This still on the table?
Been offline a couple months due to personal issues. Only on for about another week for now but I'd be happy to create a skin for the updated software.
I can toss it up on my box and hammer it out before I am offline again.
Then I'll just mail it to Andy or you Kemp.
Yeah that would be great.
I'm working more now so I don't have as much time but I would definitely like to get this done.
Let me know if you need anything.
Thanks bro
I've noticed changes already.
I'd like to put in a request for more contrast between the green and blue on the board. It's pretty close between the two and someone who is a little bit color blind will have a lot of trouble with that. The little arrow that changes into blue to indicate a new post is hard to see. In my case, it's due to blue being weak on my monitor. Blue/ green color blindness is fairly common in the general population.
I'm looking forward to the new upgrade.
I've noticed changes as well stonehenge, I'm curious would the implementers be obliged to tell us peons when things change. Major changes of course. Just so we can feel more in the loop. That doesn't mean I think you are keeping us in the dark Kemp.
I dont have a problem with the colors - if I did I would change them this end as hardly any web sites focus on accessibility so I rely on firefox extensions and things like Zap!

One thing I have noticed recently is that the 'remember my details' part of the login doesnt seem to work for me. I have to manually log in every time and as I am not always near a keyboard whilst surfing (you lucky devils ;p) it can rankle a tad.
Have fun trying to please everyone and thanks for the efforts so far :)
Good link, GM. I wonder if FF3 is any better?
I too have to log in every so often but not every time. A minor annoyance.

Faster, safer and
more awesome!This one is handy:

But there are plenty more:

They seem to want $40 for FF3. I thought it was always free? I'll wait.
My monitor is working better today so I can tell green from blue. I may look into one of those plug ins later.
$40? (//http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/)
I went to the official FF site and yes, they wanted $40 for the new version. But I just got a free upgrade so no worries. I guess they just grab the $40 from those dumb enough to pay. FF has always been free. So far it seems to work fine. Any new features I should pay attention to?
The site you went to must have been a hoax because Mozilla has never asked for any money for Firefox.
No, it was mozilla. Just google firefox3 and it's the first one up. The $40 may have been voluntary but I didn't see any option not to pay. And then my old browser asked me if I'd like the update, I clicked yes and it was free. Free is best.

Its people like you that force people like me to sit through anti phishing primers every time I use a secure site... In other news I have a small fortune locked up in my Nigerian bank account, if only someone could help me pay the transfer fee I would be very grateful
I linked to the correct site (//http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/) in my last post. They do sell the program on CD and the £3 charge covers the disc not the program.
To veer back on topic does the forum software control the RSS feed? I have started to get double posts in my reader the second one says [last post]. I use google but I am sure most readers add items chronologically.
This (//http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html) is the site I get when I google.
So I got redirected to a hoax site? I've heard about that happening but I didn't think you would run into it on google. I heard that you can type in the correct addy and your browser bar will show what is supposed to be but you will instead be at a hoax site. Some flaw in something that was exploited but supposedly was fixed. All I know is I went to google, typed in firefox and immediately a drop down menu came up and firefox3 was one of the choices which I clicked on. I clicked on the download icon and it asked me for my name and email addy. I gave fakes for both since I didn't want to be bothered. Next screen told me it was $40. I looked for a free option but didn't see one. I clicked next and it was a screen for paying. I then left. That's all I know
Crazy
The colors look better to me now. I'm not sure if that's because my monitor is working better or because of a tweak. They look brighter.
No, I think it's my monitor because the colors look better on my desktop too.
Does version 3 have a day light savings time option?
Sorry I haven't been around much to reply... been busy with work and the kid.
I'll try to get the new forum sorted this weekend.
What do you all care about the most, the style of the forum or the functions?
I can have us running the new forum software in a day or so if we aren't going to be primarily concerned about the style. I figure we can fix the style afterwards as right now, I don't have anyone qualified to help with that.
Daylight savings adjustment is in user control panel under "Board preferences" :-)
