Title: Invalid Session
Post by: Stonehenge on March 11, 2008, 03:10:09 PM
Anyone get one of those messages when trying to post? I get them every now and then, maybe every 5 posts or so. I just click submit again and it's fine.

My cookies seem to go bad on an irregular basis. I can come and be already logged in most of the time but now and then I have to re-login. But I turn off my computer every day so maybe that's it.

Here is a link that explains what causes Invalid session errors:
//http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=69493

That's a lot to read... basically, it says that it is partially the fault of your ISP (and partially the security used in phpBB).
Certain ISP's (AOL is apparently one) use server farms that tend to change the customers IP address constantly, even while browsing, and this in combination with phpBB security causes the invalid session.

They also say there isn't much that can be done without opening security holes in the code.

Hope that at least explains why it's happening....

It (invalid sessions) seems to happen mostly with long posts. Short ones are usually not a problem. And no, I do not use aol. I've never seen an explanation for a problem that didn't blame the user. Look at microsoft, they've never made crappy software, to hear them tell it. It's all user errors.

Well, the only other thing I can find mentions Google Web Accelerator as possibly conflicting with the phpBB security.

Since you say it mostly happens on long posts, I'll try upping the session length and see if that helps.

Free software.... *shrug*
