On this week's show:

New Rock Album: The Black Crowes, *Warpaint* (2008)....It's been some years since the Crowes' last new album, *Lions*, which a broadcast of this show featured back in 2002...this album is much, much better than that one, is the sound of a band that has broken apart hard and come back together for all the best reasons...full of dirty picked up wisdom with music to rock your bones...

Classic Rock Album: The Deep, *The Psychedelic Moods of The Deep* (1966)...completing this show's trifecta of playing the three albums making claim to first using the word "psychedelic" in a rock album title (the others were by the Blues Magoos and the 13th Floor Elevators)...this album's cover says that it was "recorded in a pitch black studio (at Cameo-Parkway, Phila.) In the wee hours of the morning...." & it does not disappoint a listener hoping to jump back into the earliest golden years of freaked out acid rock...

Storybook Time: Continuing Chapter Thirteen of *Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism * by Daniel Pinchbeck...

Readings from *Why?* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems...& this week's featured artist is the Stray Cats, a rockabilly revival group that hit the heights in the early 1980s with songs that were delightfully askew to those loveless cocaine flecked days...springtime sits perched before us, the vibes all around are very riled...hope clashes with fear, like always...

On this week's show:

New Rock Album: The Whigs, *Mission Control* (2008)....back in January, this show broadcast The Whigs' first album, *Give 'Em All A Big Fat Lip*...now comes their just released sophomore effort, an even harder-rocking album, with shades of humor, and subtler moments too...more enjoyable each time it spins...

Classic Rock Album: The Freak Scene, *Psychedelic Psoul* (1967)...keeping with the sequel theme, this album was recorded by a band most of whose members had recorded under the name The Deep in 1966, and released *The Psychedelic Moods of the Deep*...this sort-of follow-up waves its freak flag even higher...like so many bands then & now, little success came for this band and they dispersed to parts unknown...

Storybook Time: Continuing Chapter Fourteen of *Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism * by Daniel Pinchbeck...

Readings from *Why?* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems...& this week's featured artist is the Drive-By Truckers & tracks from their excellent new double-album, *Brighter Than Creation's Dark*, hard-driving country-rock at its finest...I've been wondering: is a person agnostic who does not know all the answers? Why is knowing the answers better than dancing with the questions?

On this week's show:

New Rock Album: R.E.M., *Accelerate* (2008)...it's been four years since R.E.M.'s last album, *Around the Sun*, a disappointing album this show nonetheless broadcast out of loyalty & love for this band back in 2004...this time around, the Athens, Georgia boys come roaring back with an album worth hearing again & again, exciting, fresh, their fourth since becoming a trio & a very hopeful sign they are in it for the long haul in the best artistic sense...a delight...

Classic Rock Album: Zodiac, *Cosmic Sounds* (1967)...this is a strange & wonderful album, "must be played in the dark," its album jacket instructs...a trippy sounding narrative trip through the 12 astrological signs...charming, offbeat, at times kind of lighthearted, but at others it rocks & its narrative soars...

Storybook Time: Continuing Chapter Fifteen of *Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism * by Daniel Pinchbeck...

Readings from *Why?* fixtion & *Many Musics* poems...& this week's featured artist is Bob Dylan & the Band, songs from their excellent 1974 live album, *Before the Flood*...the spring has finally arrived, at least in the northern hemisphere...but maybe it's bursting out all over in hearts everywhere...2008 has got to be the year it happens!
