Title: New Hampshire MJ bill
Post by: senorsalvia on January 25, 2008, 10:24:38 AM
I saw a posting somewhere yesterday that related to a new bill being introduced.    Said New Hampshire was looking to decriminalize up to 1.25 oz of MJ!!!  Went on to say that they intended to change current law that made such possession a misdemeanor crime punishable by up to a year and $1000 fine,  to a mere civil infraction which carries no jail time and up to $200 fine.... :D  :D -------------  anybody else know about this?????????????????---------

I had heard about decriminalization a while back but..... hadn't heard of anything recently.
This is great news for NH (my favorite New England state)!

I'll see if I can dig up any more info and please, do let us know if you find anything else senor  :)

Haven't heard anything since....  makes me wonder if it was not some 'pie in the sky' offhand remark someone let fly, just to see if they could garner some constituent voter bloc.........

Here's an informative (albeit boring) video of a discussion of the matter on Concord TV-

Update-
QuoteOn Feb. 14 , when a working group of the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee voted, 4 to 1, in favor of the lighter penalty, it was the first time in more than 20 years that a group of Granite State legislators had recommended the decriminalization of marijuana. On Feb. 19, however, the full committee voted, 13 to 5, to recommend that the House not pass the law.

The bill is scheduled to go before the full House March 5.

I hope the folks with the power come to their senses...

If Obama gets in, he says he favors decrim at the federal level. I figure being a politician that means he will waffle on it and do nothing. Nothing is way better than what we had under shrub and Clinton. I think Obama will leave the state MMJ clinics alone which is a very good start to a new era. And who knows, he might even keep a campaign promise or two.

I agree... if the feds would leave this to be a state issue... that's a step in the right direction.

Looks like the vote on the NH bill (HB 1623) has been pushed a couple of times.
QuoteThis full vote has been removed from the schedule for March 12, but it must take place by March 20

They do this every election year in Nevada. Now while it may suit us, having even a pound of it would bring undue attention. You say, "Oh, but a pound is alot." I'll agree but if this was a legal plant say like oregano, there wouldn't be a problem with having a pound. There is a link I can give you but I recently deleted my history, if I ever come across it again I'll post it.

I forgot to post on this....
The house did pass the bill, but it looks like it will likely be killed off elsewhere.

Here's a link to story in the Concord Monitor-
//http://concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080319/FRONTPAGE/803190305

Here is the first paragraph-
QuoteSmoke 'em if you . . . don't mind risking a violation on your record. A bill that would decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana passed New Hampshire's House yesterday by a wide margin, eliciting whoops and scattered applause in the chamber. But the revelry might be short-lived: Gov. John Lynch's office promptly announced that he would veto the measure if it gets to him.

I am thinking we should move this thread to the Entheogen Law forum...

Little late on keeping this updated.... but better than never.

The bill was killed by the senate as expected
QuoteMay 02, 2008 - 12:00 am

New Hampshire's Senate has rejected a bill that would decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana.

The bill was defeated yesterday in a voice vote by the full Senate.

The proposal would have made the possession of up to 1.25 ounces of marijuana a violation that carries a $200 fine.
