Richard Linklater's latest project is "A Scanner Darkly" based on the Philip K. Dick novel of the same name. The movie is going to be filmed and animated over with the same process as Linklater's past film Waking Life. I haven't tried to read any PK Dick books except for "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", and only because it inspired Bladerunner. Online reviews however describe the book as his trippiest work. It is supposedly very autobiographical because it delves deeply into the severe paranoia and painful withdrawal associated with heavy use of hard drugs. One reviewer stated that every realm of the story is a reflection and commentary on the other realms or perspective realities, and in the end, none of it is metaphor, it really did happen, and it is happening still. The plot also seems to bring up the fact that some of the most intellectual members of a society decide to subject their mind and body to this sort of treatment.

The 200K stream is awesome if your connection can handle it. You need Windows Media Player installed to view the streams and you need to sit through one commercial.
I truly think it is interesting that Linklater did Waking Life which is more about psychedelia and now this film, which possibly is all about addiction. It's like he is making a distinction between two forms of psychoactive abuse.

This is so cool! Now I just need to finish A Scanner Darkly..
Post-film clip EDIT:
ffft.. Keanu Reeves..
wow, that's an interesting occurrence...a scanner darkly is one of PKD's best, and nicely weird too in a PKD way...it's not exactly anti-drugs though he did have a lot to say on the matter...
i dont think WAKING LIFE is about psychedelics, though watched while journeying blows a mind good...it's about dreams, dreaming, the nature of reality, the nature of discussing reality...no more or less a trip film than 2001 or MULHOLLAND DRIVE
You're right it is about dreams. It's authetically trippy though and imo casts a somewhat positive stance towards it's own trippiness. As lost and confused as the main character incresingly becomes, in spite of his frustration, he is interested in what is happening and seems to be enjoying it. When he admits to people that he must be dreaming and does indeed want to wake up, he remembers to add that it isn't a bad dream he is experiencing and he actually likes it. The fluid style here is a positive, despite the confusion, the frustration, the mystery, the film finds truth that is comforting and enlightening (though a few times somewhat dark).
So yes, Waking Life is not about psychedelics. There is a funny story to that idea however*. What I meant though is not that WL is specifically about psychedelia or that Scanner is anti-drug, but that they examine a similar landscape through opposing perspectives. Whereas WL is beautiful and enlightening, Scanner seems to be frightening and disturbing. But then all this I can only gather from the trailer and online reviews of the novel. It does look like a very dark and disturbing film though, no?

* Insider rumor has it that Waking Life was originally screened at a film festival and Linklater addressed the crowd personally. He warned them that not everyone would understand his film and that it definitely wasn't for everyone. Then he asked, "How many of you have done drugs?" Scattered hands raised around the audience. "THIS IS FOR ALL OF YOU!", he screamed in reply before leaving the stage. I love that story.
... any torrent link found ? :)
