the schedule for the lilly show was as follows:
(i'll be archiving the show with a redesign of psilly.org in the near future)
tune: intro
psintro: "in the province of the mind"
a psilly young man is drifting on subconscious cybernetic currents in an irridescent internet sea, he comes across a coral reef of crystal thought startling in its deep simplicity...
welcome to the fascinating world of john c lilly (echo)
there are many strange fish here, and wonderfully weird constructions, colourful sea bones of frozen flow... so many interlinked paths to take, and each such a liberating walk... you can explore the caverns of sensory deprivation, freeing your mind from external stimulation... as consciousness-without-an-object you can make yourself the subject and contemplate the ramifications of metaprogramming in your very own human biocomputer... you can play with belief systems like they're funny hats, finding out which suits you and which can be employed to what effect. you can watch the glorious fractal wanderings of word loops as they morph into sentances in your ears and reveal crazy wisdoms feeding like plants in the light of contemplation... and then there are the dolphins - big-brained sex-loving silver monkies of the sea... playful & communicative... feel free to explore fruitful relations with these home-grown aliens... in fact, feel free to do anything you can conceive of, after all, as the good man lilly says:
In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true is true or becomes true, within certain limits to be found experientially and experimentally. These limits are further beliefs to be transcended. In the mind, there are no limits.
tune: no limits + brain monkeys
ummm... on with the show, excerpt from 'the dyadic cyclone':
"There exists a Cosmic Control Center with a Galactic substation called Galactic Coincidence Control. Within which is the Solar System Control Unit, within which is the Earth Coincidence Control Office (or ECCO). The assignments of responsiblities from the top to the bottom of this system of control is by a set of regulations, which, translated by ECCO for humans is somewhat as follows:"
To all humans
If you wish to control coincidences in your own life on the planet Earth, we will cooperate and determine those coincidences for you under the following conditions:
1) You must know, assume or simulate our existence in ECCO
2) You must be willing to accept our responsibility for control of your coincidences.
3) You must exert your best capabilities for your susrvival programs and your own development as an advancing member of ECCO's earthside corps of controlled coincidence workers. You are expected to use your best intelligence in this service
4) You are expected to expect the unexpected every minute, every hour of every day and of every night.
5) You must be able to remain conscious, thinking & reasoning, no matter what events we arrange to happen to you. Some of these events will seem catachlysmic, catastrophic or overwhelming. Remember: stay aware,
no matter what happens or apparently happens to you.
6) You are in our training program for life: there is no escape from it. We (not you ) control the long-term coincidences; you (not we) control the shorter-term coincidences.
7) Your major mission on earth is to discover/create that which we do to control the long-term coincidence patterns: you are being trained on Earth to do this job.
8) When your mission on planet Earth is completed, you will no longer be required to remain/return there.
9) Remember the motto passed to us
(from Galactic Coincidence Control via the Solar System Control Unit):
"Cosmic Love is absolutelely Ruthless and Highly Indifferent:
it teaches its lessons whether you like/dislike them or not."
tune: lemslipiffy
psilly: on tanks
a sensory deprivation tank, sometimes called an isolation tank, is a device that john lilly invented whilst working for the National Institute of Mental Health in 1954, it enabled him to experience what happened to his mind when it was cut off from external stimuli, the effects turned out be quite dramatic. he made many discoveries that he wouldn't share with the psychiatric group because they'd consider him psychotic, he thought of the isolation tank as a hole in the universe through which he could see alternate realities... the tank has gone thru a few changes since then, but it behaves in the same way - you open a door and climb inside the pod, the lid closes and you lie down in perfect darkness in a bouyant solution of epsom salts, you float on the surface of the water - the whole environment is tuned to the warmth of a human body, so, as you relax, you begin to forget your physical boundaries... the light of your imagination expands to fill the infinite darkness...
lilly: "tank is not a tool"
tune: E's turn
psilly: on dolphins
in 1957 lilly first noticed the peculiar ability of dolphins to mimic the human voice, at the time he was experimenting with triggering their punishment & reward systems via electrodes implanted in their brains, and didn't know whether the mimicry was just a weird side-effect of his invasive techniques... but in 1960 a dolphin named 'lizzie' seemed to repeat the words "it's 6 O'clock" - which he had just shouted across the pool. the regular language of a dolphin consists of whistles & clicks, so to hear them vocalise in this uncharacteristic way was highly unusual... after 'lizzie' came a dolphin called 'elvar'. in his first year with lillys team he began to add a range of barks, whails, moans & quacks to his vocabulary. all of these sounds were originally made under water, but that began to change as the dolphin aged. lilly gradually became convinced that these sounds were evidence of a kind of mimicry. he reasoned that, since dolphins could be trained to do all kinds of tricks for a reward like food, they must find something rewarding about trying to communicate with humans. lilly says that elvar was not simply repeating words in a tape-recorder like fashion, but analysing them and then reproducing various aspects in sequence & seperately. apparently elvar would sometimes repeat words at his natural frequency, and then slow them down so as to be within our range. lilly also got the impression that elvar was often frustrated with their laborious methods, as if he wished that someone would hurry up and understand him. sometimes elvar would insert long passages of dolphin speak between human words, as if pushing some point they could not yet imagine. this is a recording from 1964 in which a lady called margaret howe is trying to teach english to a dolphin called peter, from the sounds of them both, it was pretty frustrating.
lilly: dolphin speak, margaret & peter
tune: death rides a slow horse
lilly/psilly: first conference of three beings
lilly: loops
psinterlude:
this is a track off the ecco album on silent records featuring john lilly's introduction to one of his workshops... you are soon to hear the word 'cogitate' looped for about 10 minutes, take this chance to get comfortable, and please listen attentively.
lilly: cogitate loop with ambient backing
psilly: commentry
...lilly advises listening for a good half hour first time round but perhaps in just 10 minutes you noticed the word becoming other words and even short sentances. no change is actually occuring, so anything else you heard is down to the tricksy little monkey in your head. in the back of the book 'the dyadic cyclone' lilly mentions a survey of 300 subjects: there were 2730 alternative words to the word cogitate, only 340 of these were in a large dictionary, the rest were words not currently used. up next is a mischevous interview with john conducted by his late wife toni. it's taken from ecco2 which is available on cloister records. we find john chatting about the earth coincidence control office in a rather playful manner...
lilly: ECCO
psinterlude:
coming soon, another appearance from the three mysterious beings who make their dealings in the earth coincidence control office. minutes of their conferences can be found, transcribed by john, in his book 'the scientist'...
lilly/psilly: the three beings
tune: all the baby puppies go to sleep
psilly: out!
this production was brought to you by psilly organisation.
double you, double you, double you, dot, pee, ess, eye, el, el, why, dot, oh, arrr, gee...
