Title: Hunter S. Thompson - RIP
Post by: X. Torris on February 21, 2005, 12:41:23 AM
Author Hunter S. Thompson Kills Himself (//http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=518062)

Like him or loathe him, he was one hell of a weird-ass and author of some extremely funny material.  Everyone remembers him as "hey that was the guy who took all those drugs and wrote 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas'" but I think he had a lot more to offer than as just a counterculture foot note.  I still think "Hell's Angels" is one of the better anthropological works ever written.  It was a shit way to go out, and I'll miss him.

R.I.P Thompson :)
damn i really enjoyed reading his writings, funny indeed, X.Torris, great movie too.  Well there goes a great, gonzo journalism loses a warrior.

Well this is for you, part of his recent writings :

The American nation is in the worst condition I can remember in my lifetime, and our prospects for the immediate future are even worse. I am surprised and embarrassed to be a part of the first American generation to leave the country in far worse shape than it was when we first came into it. Our highway system is crumbling, our police are dishonest, our children are poor, our vaunted Social Security, once the envy of the world, has been looted and neglected and destroyed by the same gang of ignorant greed-crazed bastards who brought us Vietnam, Afghanistan, the disastrous Gaza Strip and ignominious defeat all over the world.

may his words touch more to come... and beyond

    Cheers Whiteshadow

Sad, it is.
No more letters.

Suspicious somewhat, too.
There must be more to this story.

Maybe after the family mourning is complete, additional details will come out.

Bye Dr. Gonzo  ----  When I first read his Hells' Angel book, I was immediately hooked.  His uncanny insight was great to see flying so vividly off the page....  When I read Fear-n-Loathing, I constantly found myself cracking up, then shoving the book onto others to share the joy...  I first head of his demise at about 3:30 this morning on NPR.  A BBC reporter stated that he was found dead by his son....  At nine this morning, an AmeriKKKan NPR reporter quoted an unidentified Aspen police officer as saying he was found by his wife.....  Seems like there is always some element of mystery/conspiracy when one of "the good ones" goes down, eh??--------  Think I'll do some net surfing and read some of his back articles from places like Esquire and the like.....  Sadly missed  ----------  senorsal----  (reaching for a vial of adrenachrome)
Title: What d'ya do
Post by: judih on February 21, 2005, 01:19:30 PM
what dya do
when you've overstayed your welcome
when you're runnin on empty
when you've played your best hand
and it's so critically bad

what dya do
when all the cynicism in your heart
leaks into your bloodstream
and even the jokes
curdle your mind

what dya do
when the best you've seen
is the worst of banality
when your words
hit bottom
and your mission shrieks without a voice

whatdya do, man, whatdya do
when even that karmic law
of return
seems better than what taunts ya in your mirror

whatdya do

ya end it
ya just end

judih

hunter baby, good bardo to you, sir and thanks for everything

Where the hell was his attorney at the time?

Surely he would have advised against this.

But honestly and sincerely his madness will truly be miss't.

P.S. - You're taking this awfully well Dent. I recall you are a huge fan.

The family plans on shooting his cremated remains out of a canon.  Presumably to stop Dissident's "investigation".

Boo!
--------------

. . . Part of me wants to know which gun he did it with. I mean, the Desert Eagle .50AE has plenty of style, but the problem with that is the exit would be too quick and clean. If your gonna blow your brains out through the roof of your mouth, a good old ankle - holstered, undercover cop, .38 snub loaded with filed down hollow - points is the way to go. Big exit wound, quick end to the burden of thinking, quite a mess to clean up.

. . . I'll be honest. My initial response to any suicide is "What a coward." If one of the quintessential reasons for existence is the cessation of suffering, one must have the courage to swallow the bitterness of existence and let it kill you, rather than abusing the divine gift of free will to end it on your own terms. He had a family; not just a wife, but a son. The comittment to thier happiness should neccessarily superecede the desire to terminate personal pain. I'm a proponent of euthanasia, but the primary difference is that euthanasia comes out of a collective descision from your loved ones, not out of selfish will.
Yet, with a guy like Dr. Gonzo, its merely par for the course. You can only go to the edge a finite amount of times before a strong wind comes along and knocks you off the precipce into the abyss. Depite his final act of defiance, he still has an immortal seat in one of the places which he despised the most, the American iconoclass. Hunter, the American dream ISINT dead, it lived inside your spirit. Now that that spirit has been splattered on your kitchen walls, may it once again be ressurected in all those that dare live as you did.

You will be missed.

A gun is so messy.
Why not a neater means?
OD or carbon monoxide.
Title:
Post by: Arjuna on February 25, 2005, 01:35:50 PM
True.  An OD would have been better for all parties involoved.

While I for the most part, agree with Arjuna, in that Thompson somehow seems to have "cheated" by committing suicide; I have also found myself reexamining things.  Hunter had been a major gun freak for years.  Yep, he was definitely one that always lived according to his own rules...  Stories abound about all spinal pain he faced...  Maybe the good doctor Gonzo,  did in fact, do things up according to his own precepts....  If he wanted out because of pain, then I can see him considering the ways to achieve his end....   Hell, with his connections, he obviously could have gotten enough drugs to do the job....  But, then the public would have pissed and moaned about 'ole druggie Hunter....  Granted, his suicide affected his family, but true to Dr. Gonzo's rampant self absorption, I don't imagine he gave much of a shit about their feelings in the matter...  I can see him not wanting to do it by drugs, as a slap at the establishment.  The WOD  meanies don't get to use his demise for their own ends...I imagine him holding the gun in hand, smirking ruefully at his impending end, and thinking that "yeah, AmeriKKKan as John F****'N Wayne, death by gunshot.............  I'll really miss the dude :(  :(   senorsal

here's another take:

"Sherman SkolnicK:Was Hunter Thompson Suicided?
    by CLOAKANDDAGGER.CA

Sherman Skolnick has addressed this issue Monday, 2/21, on Jeff Rense's show,www.rense.com, & Tuesday, 2/22, on his own Cloak‡ show, www.cloakanddagger.ca (http://www.cloakanddagger.ca), as well.

Skolnick reports that Thompson was working on an expose of the homosexual pedophile underground which permeates the MSM, Washington, DC, & BOTH political parties, a la the Franklin Coverup scandal of the 80's & 90's.

The danger of the Jeff Gannon scandal becoming the next dot to connect the BusShes to Franklin is causing panic among the MSM & DC, according to Skolnick.

Skolnick claims that Gannon AKA Gluckert is really Johnny Gosch, who was kidnapped as a child in 1982 & pressed into a pedophile prostitution ring which was directly connected to Franklin. SS advises to google "Johnny Gosch" & be amazed at the results.

Hunter Thompson's "suicide" then might be an attempt by SOMEONE to delay the dot-connecting.

Male whore scandal hits White House.

Kingpin, Jeff Gannon, stayed upstairs with Bush. Reportedly, CBS White House boss John Roberts and Matt Drudge are implicated.

CBS official reportedly secret co-owner of male whore house tied to Bush has not paid taxes.
