How large can potted Salvia plants grow? I'm curious ...
I have a plant that is 25 months old in a 24" diameter plastic pot.

I call him "Calvin" and he's SUCH a dear plant to me. I love him, and I talk to him every day.

Is this big? I thought he had a lot of growing to do yet! He's only 6' tall and might reach 10' yet.
Until somebody posts a picture of a larger plant I'm going to start calling him "The largest Salvia divinorum plant in captivity".

I couldn't trust my eyes so today I took a Tape measure out to measure a 4 month old Baby.
I've repotted this Plant this evening and She is named "Sally" now ...
Before I repotted Sally she measured 26" tall (She was root bound, in an 8" pot, poor baby):

I measured a leaf at 12" (30 cm) from stem to end ...
Salvia's Leaves CAN reach a Foot long (Rarely)!
Some sort of Record setting Leaf there ...

SeaMac. those are fine plants, o yeah...
They really love your climate, and your soil.
Here in tropical Hawaii, I get great growth when I bother to feed them well. Sometimes the main stalk gets 8 feet long. When I first started growing them, just in 1.5gal bags of homemade compost, they got huge, with 8" leaves commonly, close to 12" including petioles, but never fully 12" leaves, that's a record imo. And they never branched into trees the way yours have. They make vertical stems of a certain size, then make new younger stems from the base. Stems from higher up tend to split off easily. I have seen some big ones on the island. but they tend to "vine", rather than bush up the way yours have.
Oddly, it is mid-June, and I have an outdoor plant in a 3gal pot that has a top cola flower cluster now,. even tho the day length is too long for flowering.

This 'baby' plant was barely 4 months old when I named her "Sally" and gave her a 10" pot (And Measured her):

She was 26 inches high (66 cm) and she had a Lovely leaf a foot long (30 cm) ...

3 Weeks later (June 13th - 5 days ago) I measured "Sally" again.

The SAME PLANT (The one on the left with measuring tape against it) 3 weeks Later is now 41 Inches tall (105 cm)!
And she has even bigger leaves now at (34 cm) thirteen inches:

In 21 days this plant grew fifteen inches! :mrgreen: That is ALMOST 2 centimeters (Or 2/3 Inch) PER DAY!!!!
NOW I know for SURE that my plants DO grow from a quarter to a half an inch a day and it's NOT my imagination!
Even Calvin got bigger in one month!

(If a plant has Support and you take it's top for a cutting it branches into a "Y" shape. after several times it gets very branchy!

How in the world do you manage this? Some of my plants are in bigger pots, but they never grow that much! I've had a few plants for a several years. I mean WOW! my best leaf was only 7inches and most only 2-3...
I live in the Appalachians...maybe they like more warmth? It gets to 85 here and is pretty humid. :? I give them a fair amount of western sun...care to share?

I guess San Diego is second only to Hawaii for growing Salvia outdoors!

So, I give them LOTS of root room / I water them when they dry out / They are in the Shade but get sunlight reflected off surrounding buildings. And Miracle-Gro fertilizer, of Course ... :D

I think that's a sign you are one of "Her Children": she wants to set seed SO Badly for you. If they bloom try the directions on my web page Grow your own Salvia divinorum seeds (//http://members.cox.net/sageseeds/) - an illustrated step by step guide to hand pollination and seeds. I had some weird racemes back in April (that didn't bloom) out of season, also, and think she can flower anytime she wants, just on a whim ...
But it is a lot of work for them to set seeds: it's much easier for them to just give up and fall over in the mud (and put up 20 stalks at a shot from the old stem)!

This Topic is VERY Old. All those plants have ceased to be ....
But there is Still a Salvia Plant in my garden, As well as a whole herd of San Pedro, and one each of the Dagga Plants.
My "Wild Dagga" is just blooming for the first time! And my "Klip Dagga" will soon also have her first flowers.
I know that some plants if u keep the dead root systems you can grow back a new plant... is Salvia Divinorum the same way? Mine are dead because they dried out while I was on vacation...
