Title: What About Me ??
Post by: senorsalvia on April 23, 2007, 10:11:42 AM
Got up Sunday morning and just did not wanna listen to anymore Virgina Tech bemoaning / Al Queada assessments / Gonzales grumblings....   Not being much of a fan of standard conglomerate FM radio,  I was about to despair...  I turned the dial a bit, and lo and behold,  I caught a program called "acoustic storm"  they started off their broadcast  with my very fave band QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE------  Might I suggest everyone give a lil listen to the boys from S.F....  and do remember, those plaintive and insightful lyrics are circa '65.....  MMMmm goooood!!!!   Started my Sunday on the right note 'fer sure---sal

you poisoned my sweet water
you cut down my green trees
the food you fed my children
was the cause of their disease
my world is slowly fallin' down
and the air's not good to breathe
and those of us who care enough,
we have to do something...

ooh, what you gonna do about me?
ooh, what you gonna do about me?

your newspapers, they just put you on
they never tell you the whole story
they just put your young ideas down
i was wonderin' could this be the end
of your pride and glory?

ooh, what you gonna do about me?
ooh, what you gonna do about me?

i work in your factories
i study in your schools
i fill your penitentiaries
and your military too
and i feel the future trembling
as the word is passed around
"if you stand uo for what you do believe
be prepared to be shot down"

ooh, what you gonna do about me?
ooh, whatg you gonna do about me?

and i feel l ike a stranger
in the land where i was born
and i  live like an outlaw
and i'm always on the run
and i'm always getting busted
and i got to take a stand
i believe the revolution
must be might lose at hand

ooh, what you gonna do about me?
ooh, what you gonna do aobut me?

i smoke marijuana
but i can't get behind your wars
and most  of what i do and believe
is against most of yhour laws
i'm a fugitive from injustice
but i'm going to be free
'cause your rules and regulations
they don't do a thing for me

ooh, what you gonna do about me?
ooh, what you gonna do about me?

and i feel like a stranger
in the land where i was born
and i live just like an outlaw
and i'm always on the run...

Me too. Unfortunatley I never saw them, though they played around here all the time.

My favorite record is the first one, with Pride of Man and The Fool. It's just dripping with that haight St vibe......

Damn....All those years, all those vibes, and I just assumed QMS penned that song....  I stand humbly corrected... Now it looks as if I have a heretofore unknown gem of an artist to listen to....  Thanks GRM..sal

i saw quicksilver (w/dino valenti doin' vocals) in the early 70s (ummm, maybe in erie pa? or cleveland...)
i slipped in a flask of good ol' southen comfort along with the smokables, into the venue...
concert just rollin' along, soundin' quite fine...
dino was rappin' while the band was jammin' behind him...
about the first time he dosed up, walkin' down the streets in the wee hours, falling in love with an undulating lamp-post, & said it was quite fine back then, & it was quite fine right there with us...
& came out into the audience & was tokin' & jokin' with the folks...
& i waved at him as he got near our row, & passed that flask on down...
& he took a good ol' choog-a-lug offa that yummy 100 proof liquor, smiled real big, w/eyes just a-sparklin', & passed it back down the row (with a couple folks takin' sips as it came back to our posse, hehheh... that was some good sharin' o' the magick that night, yeah...)

one dam' fine show, i must say...

While still in high school,  I heard on our local underground FM station that Quicksilver was going to give a free afternoon jam prior to the concert scheduled for St. Lous' Kiel Auditorium....  I thought about it all day in class...  When school let out,  I went home and stole the family 2nd car and cruised over to St Lou, 45miles away....  Yep, there was a good vibe hippie crowd hanging at Hippie Hill and some jams were underway...  I parked my ride and made my way amongst the crown...  A tall cat with way long brown hair sat down next to me and said hey...  He pulled out joint rolled in those ole ti,e wood grain looking papers, and we sparked up...  He asked me what I was doin and I told him I stole a car and drove across state lines to hear my fave band Quicksilver ..  (at the time, a St.Louis local band was playing intro for Quick)   He nodded and said as how yeah, he guessed Quick were OK....  I started in telling him he did not understand...  That QMS had a lead player that had a certain wierd something that I could only describe as a fluid sarcastic style that I really dug....   The guy smiled and handed me the roach saying he had to go...   He walked through the crowd...  He reached behind an amp and slung on a guitar....   "Quicksilver Messenger Service, at your Service"  came the voice of John Cippolina!!!!   Ha, sure made my day!!   Of course, when I got back to the parents place, high and drunk, sailing on the siren strains of San Fran Psychedelia, my parents grounded me for about the next several decades 8) --------------  sal
