Title: Caesar salad
Post by: Syd on February 28, 2007, 10:38:12 PM
So I was doing some general browsing and discovered that Caesar salad includes anchovies and that contrary to popular belief, the original Caesar salad recipe did not contain anchovies; the slight anchovy flavor comes from Worcestershire sauce. Cardini was actually opposed to using anchovies in his salad. A few modern recipes now include anchovies as chopped fillets or in paste form.

...And that's why I can't stand "real" caesar salad.

When I was very young, my father, brother and I were walking along a beach on the Gulf Coast.  We passed a "fish kill", something that happens when an algal bloom dies and the subsequent bacterial action uses up all the nearby oxygen and kills the fish.  Thousands of fish.  Dead, washing up all along the shore.

Blech.

So later that night he cooks us fishsticks.  I haven't been able to stomach that "fishy" taste ever since.  It's gotten better recently, though.
