Title: Tracks of the Marsupial Mole.
Post by: Thinair on February 01, 2007, 11:44:02 AM
I was going through a box of stuff from Aus the other day and found a guidebook they hand out at Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park.

On page 7 of this booklet is this picture (//http://farm1.static.flickr.com/153/373404301_5dd5e9fccb.jpg?v=0), which is apparently a cave art depiction of the 'tracks of the itjarijari, marsupial mole'.

Riiiiiiigggght.

Of course it is.

Interesting. You should post this gem over at the www.shaman-australis.com/forum (http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum) as well.

It appears to be a clear depiction of Psilocybe semilanteceata.

I'm with the crawling mole. you can see it's tail, little feet marks, and it's head. If not, what do the tracks of the Itjarijari marsupial mole look like????

It is a tough call. To be fair, the tracks (//http://www.marsupialsociety.org/images/fig03.jpg) do look spot on. As mentioned as well, they do look like semilanceata and I have no idea whether a similar species grows near there - not impossible though as it's an area with water.

However, it is a startling resemblance and the 'underground'/'underworld' connection is an interesting one. There's a wonderful article by Donal Ruane in Dreamflesh (//http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dreamflesh-Journal-Ecological-Archaeologies-Consciousness/dp/0955419603/sr=8-1/qid=1170447380/ref=sr_1_1/026-9184366-5461218?ie=UTF8&s=books) vol I in which he describes the transmutable/transpermiable imagery of reality. Sorry, sound like I’m rambling lol. It wouldn't be inconceivable for a connection there, especially as many species will no longer be around since white man came and trashed the party :)

Guess we'll never know.

Best wishes,

Marion.

(PS. Tried to join other forum but having posting probs.)
