Title: O*zone light
Post by: Hedon on December 01, 2006, 08:35:54 AM
Has any one tried thoses new titanium dioxide coated lights to reduce odors or control mold? Supposedly when uv light passes through this titanium dioxide coating inside the bulb it causes the air around the light to become charged and thereby oxidizes organic molecules that cause odor. They cost a bit more than the standard compact flourescent but do they work ?

Actually the oils need to contact the titanium dioxide coating, then while in contact with the coating, they are oxidized.

UV can by itself produce ozone. That may not be the major mechanism at work here but it does work. The titanium dioxide probably works as a catalyst for destroying odors as well as help producing some ozone.

may also look into germicidal lamps and such for odor reduction :)

Ozone is a very toxic gas

it is toxic to humans and to Plants

Germicidal UV ( UV-C) is also Hazardous/ mutagenic
do not expose yourself or your plants to it
