Title: Death and the psychedelic experience....
Post by: laughingwillow on September 24, 2006, 11:02:58 AM
This morning I came across this quote (on Erowid) from the work of Shulgin. A psychologist's experience with 2-CB is the context. It appears to me that the subject in question has accidentally stumbled into a unique realm of psychedelic initiation. As the natural inclination is usually to shy away from such intense experiences, many of us must be tricked into facing our personal death. Psychedelics are able to amplify and magnify our emotions to the point of allowing for personal transformation and full-blown breakdown, with the latter often proceeding the former......

(with 100 mg) I had weighed correctly. I had simply picked up the wrong vial. And my death was to be a consequence of a totally stupid mistake. I wanted to walk outside, but there was a swimming pool there and I didn't dare fall into it. A person may believe that he has prepared himself for his own death, but when the moment comes, he is completely alone, and totally unprepared. Why now? Why me? Two hours later, I knew that I would live after all, and the experience became really marvelous. But the moment of facing death is a unique experience. In my case, I will some day meet it again, and I fear that I will be no more comfortable with it then than I was just now. This was from the comments of a psychologist who will, without doubt, use psychedelics again in the future, as a probe into the unknown..............................

I had a troubled guy come to me.  He and a friend took a gram of coke and a gram of 2cb*, and snorted it during the course of a evening.  They didn't understand at all what 2cb was (this was back when it was legal).  He mentioned during the course of the night the two of them played russian roulette.  Neither of them died, but it was a wonder.  He was having trouble with the death aspects of the trip.  I don't know how it finally came to it, but we ended up smoking some salvia over the matter.   He credits it with saving his life.

* I would consider a good dose of 2cb to be 12-25 mg.  100 mg in shulgin's case, or 500 mg in this case is stupid.
