Title: I turn and look-

Unrestrained emotionless seriousness, that is how she would sing it (I remember) juxtaposed against lyrics which were as meaningless as they were outright silly. Therein lies a two-fold explanation; It is simultaneously the reason I grew so fond of Dana as a friend and also why I began to really dig Weezer. Previous to that, the only band I liked on KROQ was Green Day and the only real reason I listened to it was for Love Line (and the few black people I knew were mere aquaintances)... I am digressing. The song was "The Sweater Song". I love it to this day.

Dana liked Cesar. Cesar liked that one nerdy Korean chick. I liked that one nerdy Korean chick too, so I hated Cesar for his similar tastes and competitive spirit. I got better grades than Cesar so he hated me likewise, then when Dana and I had a falling out, Cesar was stuck in the middle whereas Dana began to hate her unreturned fondness towards Cesar. high school was three years of this crap, but the three of us survived it and remain the closest of friends. IMO that right there is the very definition of friendship.

Now that I think of it, I was wrong. I used to listen to KROQ back in junior high as well because I was crazy into Nirvana. But Weezer was Dana, definitely.

I have lost so many Weezer albums it is kind of comic. I bought the blue album three times, Pinkerton twice, and Make Believe three times as well. Make believe has what is one of my current favorite songs. It goes like this:

I want to help you, but I don't know how
I want to soothe you, but I can't speak out
I have many fears about rejection
I have many memories of pain
I have always been a little shy

So I'll turn and look the other way
I will turn and look the other way

I want to hold you, but I am afraid
I want to touch you, but I'm not that way
I have many doubts about my motives
I have many fears about my greed
I have always hurt the one that I love

So I'll turn and look the other way
I will turn and look the other way

That really feels me - And in that connectedness manner of things that makes you wonder how you came to that sensation; Such that I hear it and see Dana acting out The Sweater Song and how the academic decathlon tore us apart and how a Christian cult forced us back together and how Cesar watched it all in the sidelines and couldn't stop laughing (because life is hilarious).

I like that feeling. It creeps up on you all stealth-like and slowly and before you realize it, you are wading in it up to your nostrils with only your eyes poking out just above the surface. In that moment, it is awesome... Until it passes, because you turn and look the other way.
