I suggest staying in the house and breakbeat genres if looking for a soulful, more "human" aspect to electronic music. IMO. I personally prefer the cultured sound of house and acid jazz. Though psy has many possibilities. Fuck anything over 145 bpm.
This Web chart gives examples and details the history of a myriad of different genres and sub-genres. I found it very helpfull when trying to understand gabber, and hardcore, but I still dont see how people can like let alone dance to that shit.
JRL Please take the time to see the evolution of house from disco/funk and see why we like this music soooo much!!!!
Thanks, Neo. I know you guys think I'm a musical fascist, but I really do enjoy learning about other stuff. And I am sure that there are gems to be found in all the sub genre.
Peace.
I love Ishkur's site. It's well worth the time browsing through the "Rave Captions"--pictures of ravers with funny captions.
If you're looking for a 'human' aspect in electronic music, look to goa trance.
