Who here has heard the album "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"? What do you think of it?
To tell the truth sometimes I think it is really lame. But then, sometimes it sounds like, really really sad and touching (like 'makes ya wanna cry' sad). And then sometimes, in the right mood, the entire album just cracks me up because its frickin hilarious.
Anyway, just curious.

I've heard a couple of MP3's from them (I think from Avery Island). From what I've heard I like them.
Here are the lyrics to the 2nd song on the album:
In the Aeroplane over the Sea
What a beautiful face
I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
What a beautiful dream
That could flash on the screen
In a blink of an eye and be gone from me
Soft and sweet
Let me hold it close and keep it here with me
And one day we will die
And our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see
Love to be
In the arms of all I'm keeping here with me
Anna's ghost all around
Hear her voice as it's rolling and ringing through me
Soft and sweet
How the notes all bend and reach above the trees
Now how I remember you
How I would push my fingers through
Your mouth to make those muscles move
That made your voice so smooth and sweet
And now we keep where we don't know
All secrets sleep in winter clothes
With one you loved so long ago
Now he don't even know his name
What a beautiful face
I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
And when we meet on a cloud
I'll be laughing out loud
I'll be laughing with everyone I see
Can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all
amazing album. when i first heard it, i didn't understand why so many people consider it a masterpiece. it just took a while to understand. listening to it a lot on a trip through the south is when it began to hit me.
i highly recommend listening to the songs "in an aeroplane over the sea" and "two-headed boy part I." over and over and over...

YEAH, quite so. When I first heard it and got to the part where he goes "I love you Jesus Chriiiiiiissssst" and it hangs forever I was like WTF?? And after the first time I listened to the album straight through I thought it was either really lame or extremely corny. But then I left it in my car stereo and let it spin for a few days and listened to it over and over and I get why it became such a hipster icon to purchase it (and decide to love it or hate it)... It really is art. I played it for my friend Dana who is in a rock band and she said that it was really interesting in the same manner that a surrealist painting is intersting and that it makes you think about music.

haha i had the same reaction. just saying that at all was an immediate turn-off for me, but then when he says it again and then it builds and builds and builds and finally crashes into a wave of noisy guitar and drums....so nice.
