An opportunity may develop that would allow me to relocate to southern California.
I am concerned about the cost of living there.
Does anyone here live within 100 miles of LA?
If so, how do you afford it?
The area seems so expensive compared to anywhere else I have ever considered living.
Thanks,
Winder
It is crazy expensive here. If you can tolerate a roomate, you might get away with 500-800 a month anywhere in the westside (which is prime, if you are 310, you are hot property). Otherwise, Silver Lake and Hawthorn are kind of reasonable, but crime is a problem in some areas.
Otherwise you gotta trek it to the suburbs (like the dreaded 909 and assorted residentials in the valley).
Before moving back to ghetto ass Koreatown, I was paying 850 a month for a (310 area code) studio apartment with a kitchen and bathroom (and large sliding door closet) in Culver City just along the outskirts of Westwood (near UCLA).
People find roomies and small rooms-for-rent all sorts of ways here. The online services kind of suck. Craigslist might be an option...
One of my co-workers pays about 600 to share a 2 bedroom 1 bath with 1 roomate in (310) Santa Monica. Another co-worker pays about the same (around 550) for use of a guesthouse but much farther south in Hawthorn. They both did really well imo.
